Friday Morning Dump

- We were wondering how the media was going to react to the Bruce Pearl scandal. Yesterday, Dan Wolken ripped him. Today? None other than Gregg Doyel, who, despite admittedly liking Pearl as a person, called for his firing. But its not quite that simple. Andy Katz did some excellent reporting on this topic, analyzing Pearl's contract with Tennessee, and he found that "Tennessee cannot terminate coach Bruce Pearl for cause without paying him until there is an NCAA 'finding' and, even then, it has to be determined Pearl knowingly engaged in conduct that was a 'significant' NCAA violation." The lawyer that Katz had help him pour over Pearl's contract said that it may provide Pearl even more protection that Jim O'Brien's contract with Ohio State provided him. O'Brien admitted to paying a Yugoslavian recruit's family for humanitarian purposes, but when Ohio State fired him before an NCAA finding, the Buckeyes had to shell out $2.4 million.

- Today's must read comes from Luke Winn, who takes a look at the twelve new coaches in the power conferences.

- As most of you know, Kentucky Sports Radio now has their own radio show, and yesterday they got Jeff Goodman on. Matt Jones and Goodman had a fantastic back-and-forth discussion regarding, among other things, Pete Thamel, Pat Forde, and the coverage that Kentucky gets. The podcast is down at the bottom of this link, and in 9/16 of Hour 1 go to the 20 minute mark.

- RTC's State Tournament is in the Final Round. Head over there and vote for a winner. We got Carolina.

- While we are on the topic of Kentucky, a columnist for the Fayetteville-Observer ripped Calipari. A Sea of Blue and KSR both have their own responses.

- Steve Lavin makes more news on the recruiting trail, as he landed a commitment from 6'7" JaKarr Sampson, a top 50 player in the class of 2011.

- More good stuff from Matt Norlander writing over at Jeff Goodman's blog. Norlander caught up with Mike Jarvis, the former St. John's head coach currently at Florida Atlantic. Andy Katz caught up with another former high-major coach, Buzz Peterson, who is currently at UNC-Wilmington.

- Your Friday just got a whole lot better: !!!NEW CLUB TRILLION POST!!! Mark the Shark justifies why he is better at walking-on Billy Mays. Yes, THAT Billy Mays. No, I'm not going to provide you an extra link. The "THAT" implies that you better damn-well-know who Billy Mays is/was.

- Not only does Mississippi Valley State have one of the coolest nicknames in the country, they also have perhaps the most difficult non-conference schedule in the nation.

- They have an app for that.
