Friday Morning Dump

- Usually, going from a BCS school to a mid-major can be seen as a demotion or down-grade. But as Andy Katz explains, Greg McDermott's move from Iowa State to Creighton is anything but that. In fact, I'd argue that Creighton is a better job than Iowa State.

- Interesting read here from CNN on Arsalan Kazemi, a 6'7" Iranian forward from Rice University, on what it is like being an Iranian basketball player in the United States.

- UConn got another extension for their deadline to respond to the NCAA's Committee on Infractions. They now have until September 7th, also known as Tuesday. UConn signs 19-year-old German swingman Niels Giffy. UConn has a solid incoming class, including Giffy, Shabazz Napier, Jeremy Lamb and Roscoe Smith.

- Yesterday we told you about Rush The Court's ingenious Big Four State Tournament idea. Today they provided us with the final match-ups of the first round. The tournament is such a big hit that other blogs are breaking down the "action"

- Will UNC's basketball program be investigated since the football program was found to be committing numerous NCAA violations? Roy Williams says no: "I would like to say I'm 100 percent certain, but making statements like that just comes back to bite you," Williams told Sporting News. "From every conversation we've had, I don't think we've been involved at all."

- As a die-hard Hoya fan, I don't mind seeing this at all. But as a realistic hoops brainiac I just don't think this is going to happen. But please, oh please, let me be wrong.

- Forgot to mention this yesterday -- the Big Ten's football divisions were announced, but there will be no divisions for basketball with Nebraska joining the league.

- Austin Rivers will be visiting Kansas.

- Speaking of Georgetown, they offered a scholarship to Ryan Arcidiacano, the 45th-ranked player in the class of 2012

- Da'Sean Butler tried his hand at writing children's stories. He failed. Miserably.

- Drexel is moving on.

- A preview of the top shooting guards for the 2010-2011 season. Atop the list are Colorado's Alec Burks, tOSU's William Buford, Georgia's dunk-machine Travis Leslie, and Texas' Jordan Hamilton, just to name a few.

- Hofstra lands Rhode Island transfer Stevie Mejia. The 5-foot-9 point guard was a former Massachusetts player of the year, and will have to sit out the season before finishing up his last two years of eligibility.

Marquette's basketball team is providing an all-access pass for a "Hard Knocks" style reality show.
