The fields for both the CBE Classic and the Legends Classic (don't you dare call them tournaments) have been announced by the Gazelle Group.
Syracuse, Michigan, Georgia Tech, and UTEP will host regionals for the Legends Classic before the four hosts advance to Atlantic City to play the semifinals and finals. The other schools participating will be Detroit and William & Mary, Bowling Green and Gardner-Webb, Albany and Niagara, and Mercer and Western Carolina.
Duke, Kansas State, Marquette, and Gonzaga are hosts for the CBE Classic before advancing to Kansas City. Princeton and Miami OH, James Madison and Presbyterian, Bucknell and Wisconsin Green-Bay, and IUPUI and San Diego State are the other eight team that will be participating.
These two events will be run like the typical Gazelle Group events -- regardless of record, the host teams will be advancing, which is a shame. There are some good teams participating. Would anyone be surprised if San Diego State knocked off Gonzaga? Or if Ray McCallum, Jr., led Detroit to a win over Syracuse?
The only thing I will be rooting for in these two events is a matchup between Duke and Kansas State. Duke will likely be the No. 1 team when the preseason polls come out, but K-State is going to be in a lot of top fives.
