Towson gets a new court ... with tiger stripes?

Following in the footsteps of the Oregon Ducks and their new Matthew Knight Court, the Towson Tigers have made some changes to their home floor.

In new head coach Pat Skerry's attempt to make Towson, who went 4-26 last season, relevant in basketball, the school will be adding "watermark tiger stripes" to the court in Tiger Arena.

"Just like Oregon did last year at the Matthew Knight Arena with their new look, we feel that our new court is a plus for recruiting because kids like things that are unique and cutting edge in design," Skerry said in a release from the school. "When the guys first saw the court design on the www.TigerArena.com web site it got a great response, so we figured as long as we are getting the court repainted why not go with the new design now."

Dan Steinberg at the DC Sports Bog found some pictures of the floor:

Its an interesting concept, to say the least.

Having a unique court is certainly one way to stand out in the mind of a recruit. The subtlety of it will also be a plus, as watching a game at Oregon in HD required sunglasses.

That said, having tiger stripes painted onto your basketball court is not going to rebuild the program. Towson was winless in the CAA last year and lost their best player -- Isaiah Philmore -- to a transfer. Its going to take more than eight gallons of paint and 62 gallons of finish to change the direction of Towson basketball.

Since we're on the topic, here are some other court ideas that may or may not be a bit more over-the-top than Towson's.

UPDATE: John Infante of the ByLaw Blog reminded us on twitter that Colorado State also has a design on their court. I'd expect Towson's new court to end up looking more like CSU's than Oregon's:
