UPDATED: Report: Washington player accused of rape

UPDATE: Lorenzo Romar commented on this report this afternoon:

"We've been informed there is an investigation, an allegation in regards to one of our student-athletes," Romar said. "It's something we take very seriously at this point. It's very serious. However, there is not nearly enough information at this point for us to determine [what's] to be done here. Right now, we just need a little more time to decide."
UPDATE II: Here is a transcript of his entire press conference.

Here we go again.

For (by my count) the seventh time in the last six months (Tre'Von Willis, Tony Woods, LaceDarius Dunn, Mario Little, the St. Louis players, the Michigan State players), a men's college basketball player is being investigated for assaulting a female.

And this one may be the worst of them all, as it appears a member of the Washington Huskies is being investigated for raping a 16 year old girl:
The girl told KIRO 7 that she's been a longtime fan of the UW athlete and was thrilled when he accepted her invitation to be friends on Facebook. The girl said the two started texting.

The girl told her parents she was going to a movie Saturday night, but instead went with a friend to meet up with the athlete at an apartment near Garfield High School, according to police documents.

The girl said that once she was inside the apartment, the athlete asked her how she would feel if she went home no longer a virgin. She said she told him repeatedly to stop and that she just wanted to meet an athlete she admired.
The story that is being blockquoted above is reporting that the accused is an athlete at Washington, while this report is claiming that the player is a "prominent basketball player".

Here is the university's statement:
The department of intercollegiate athletics has learned of a police investigation based on allegations surrounding a current UW student-athlete. At this time, the university does not have comment on the matter. Furthermore, neither department officials, nor members of the UW men’s basketball coaching staff or team will comment on the matter at tomorrow’s open media session. Questions regarding the investigation should be directed to the Seattle Police Department.
We'll have more on this as the news becomes available.
