- Most believed that Taylor King, the former Duke and now former Villanova forward, was done playing basketball after he was kicked off the Wildcat team two months ago. But King told Jeff Goodman that he would be making a return, transferring to his hometown USC Trojans. King will have to sit out one season, and when he is eligible, he will only have one year of eligibility left. He had been considering transferring to an NAIA school in order to play two more seasons.
- Oklahoma State senior Nick Sidorakis has decided to give up his scholarship and become a walk-on. Travis Ford overrecruited, meaning that he had 14 players he promised a scholarship to and only 13 scholarships to give out. So instead of having to run one player out of the program, Sidorakis will pay to attend OSU. This isn't the first time this has happened. Off the top of my head, Jarvis Varnado of Mississippi State was a 'walk-on' last season, and former Washington State point guard Taylor Rochestie did the same thing a few years back.
- Virginia Tech was supposed to get some help inside from big man and Florida transfer Allan Chaney, but after suffering two episodes over the summer -- including collapsing after a workout -- Chaney has been diagnosed with viral inflammation of the heart. It could take anywhere from 6-18 months for him to recover. According to Jeff Goodman, he is going to see a specialist, but it is unclear whether he will be cleared to play this season.
- Once upon a time, before the Chicago Sun-Times started tossing around six-figured accusations about the recruitment of Anthony Davis, the story was that Davis, who is one of the top five recruits in the country, had chosen where he wants to go to school. Many assumed Kentucky, but if that is true, he has yet to inform Ohio State and Syracuse. I still think he ends up a part of Big Blue Nation, but after the accusations, might he head elsewhere to try and clear his name?
- Oregon State got some good news today when Eric Moreland, an athletic, 6'9" transfer from UTEP, was granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA due to "special circumstances". What those special circumstances are, we don't know.
- The basketball version of Mr. Irrelevant, Dwayne Collins, is headed to Italy.
- Huggy Bear is back in Morgantown, seemingly none the worse for wear after a scary fall that broke seven of his ribs while in Vegas.
- Ron Artest is out of his mind. And now he wants to coach St. John's...
- Oregon has pushed back the date of the opening of their new home court. Weird its mid-season, no?
- Jeff Eisenberg tries to find out the truth about Corey Fisher's 105 point game.
Outside the Lines on Latavious Williams, who blazed a trail that may very well be followed by Will Barton this year.
I'm sure you heard quite a bit about the Oakland Soldiers during the month of July. Watch this video, and you'll understand why. Personally, I think this group should just find a school that will take the whole team.
