- Today's must-read comes from Fran Fraschilla (Insider ... sorry), who argues -- pretty effectively, I might add -- that amateur basketball in the US should move to a 24 second shot clock. That means college, high school, AAU, every level. I definitely agree with Fraschilla that AAU and high school ball need a shot clock. Playing basketball with a shot clock is a completely different game than playing without one. As far as changing everything to a 24 second clock, well, I'm not quite sure I'm on board with that. I need to think about it more.
- Today's other must-read comes from everyone's favorite mash-up of consonants -- RTMSF of RTC -- who takes a look at the best three year recruiting run in college hoops history. We believe that it is too early to make this consideration -- I find it difficult to believe John Calipari's class of 2011 is complete -- but definitely check it out.
- The matchups for the Crossroads Classic, which really should go by the name of Hoosier Classic, have been announced. The games for the December 2011 doubleheader are Purdue vs. Butler and Notre Dame vs. Indiana. The games for December 2012 are Indiana vs. Butler and Purdue vs. Notre Dame.
- The last, open head coaching position in college hoops is on the verge of being filled. Illinois-Chicago, who saw long time head coach Jimmy Collins resign earlier this summer, is now down to five finalists:Wisconsin assistant Howard Moore, Michigan State associate head coach Mark Montgomery, Minnesota assistant Vince Taylor, Memphis assistant Willis Wilson and University of New Orleans coach Joe Pasternak.
They hope to make a decision this week.
- Drexel suffered a serious blow last month, when they lost two players, including their leading scorer, as the result of a botched robbery attempt. Remember, this was a team predicted by many to be a top four club in the CAA. Bruiser Flint will have his work cut out for him, but he caught a break -- Drexel will be heading to Turkey this month to play a few exhibition games. That means not only does Flint get the extra practice time, he has a chance to play a couple of games, all of which should help him, and his team, figure out how to move on.
- How about this for a nice recruiting tool for Steve Lavin -- he's pushing for MSG to allow his Johnnies to use the Knick locker room during home games. It will definitely be much nicer than the auxiliary locker they currently use.
- Shawne Merriman is suing Christean Laettner and Brian Davis for a failed business venture. Its not the only case against the two right now, as neither seem incredibly business savvy.
- Sounds like Sarikopolous to Greece is true.
- This is quite enjoyable -- what if Michael Bay directed the 24 Hour Tip-Off Marathon?
- The NCAA is getting more lax on their drug testing policy, a change that probably won't affect college hoops all that much. Unless you consider weed a PED.
The kids from Legendary Shots are pwning the guys from Dude Perfect right now. Check out this one:
Miles Plumlee has hops. Here he is jumping over five kids (I love how he gets mobbed by the campers afterwards) ...
... and here is is jumping over his 6'11" brother Mason
