Tuesday Morning Dump

- Today's must read comes from Drew Cannon. Who? Just read it.

- Two former college point guards got jobs yesterday. Tyus Edney, he of the 4.8 second full court dash to beat Mizzou in the second round of the 1995 tournament, will join Ben Howland's staff at UCLA as the Director of Basketball Operations. And Greg Paulus, the former Duke point guard who spent a year quarterbacking the Syracuse football team before landing a couple tryouts with the Saints, is headed to Navy where he will be an assistant coach on Billy Lange's staff.

- Former Villanova point guard Scottie Reynolds went undrafted in June, did not make an NBA roster, and is now headed to Italy's second division to play for Prima Veroli. Its quite a fall from being an all-american, but according to Reynold's agent, the offer they received was too much to pass up.

- USA Basketball announced the 10 players that will be headed to NYC to train with the Olympic team August 10-13:

  • JaJuan Johnson (Purdue)
  • Jon Leuer (Wisconsin)
  • Shelvin Mack (Butler)
  • Kyle Singler (Duke)
  • Chris Singleton (Florida State)
  • Nolan Smith (Duke)
  • Trey Thompkins (Georgia)
  • Mike Tisdale (Illinois)
  • Kemba Walker (Connecticut)
  • Chris Wright (Dayton)
- Daniel Bejarano, an incoming freshman at Arizona, had a serious car accident recently. He's lucky he didn't get seriously injured.

- It was a relatively quiet day in the trial of Karen Sypher, with the biggest news being that Sypher told her ex-husband that she didn't take a plea deal because she wanted to bring Pitino down with her. In othe news, someone (presumably a Louisville fan) keyed Matt Jones' car. Jones is the brains behind KSR and has provided quite a bit of coverage of the Pitino trial. UofL fans are loving it.

- In other Pitino news, Seth Davis says Pitino is a victim. He is, but he brought this mess on himself. Keep it in your pants, and this whole thing never happens. The real victims? Pitino's wife and kids, and Sypher's children. Dan Shaughnessy followed up Marrioti's article from last week, claiming that Pitino needs to be fired. I disagree. Pitino has committed no crime. Being an adulterer is not illegal, its frowned upon...

- One of the great things about college hoops teams taking their summer trips is that we get a glimpse, albeit ever so brief, of what these teams could look like come November. Of the many, many teams traveling, Kentucky is headed to Canada (although Terrence Jones may not play because of an ankle injury), Pitt is dominating in Ireland (my junior year in college we did a four-game, seven-day tour of Ireland), and Memphis will be spending time in the Bahamas, where they will be stressing defense and rebounding.

- After sitting out two seasons because of a transfer and a torn acl, Scott Martin, who entered Purdue in the same class as Robbie Hummel, E'Twaun Moore, and JaJuan Johnson, will finally be suiting up for Notre Dame.

- Texas is No. 2 on CBSSport's Flourishing Five countdown. Here is Gary Parrish on the Longhorns.

- So is Deion Sanders ripping people off?

Who wants to listen to some Jeff Goodman and Dave Telep?
