So yesterday was pretty crazy, huh? Nebraska, Big XII, Pac-16, USC, Tom Izzo, the APR, everything Kansas, early season tournaments, yada yada yada... Did everything happen yesterday? Can you remember a crazier day in college athletics? Sadly, I get the feeling that today could surpass that.
We'll get into conference realignment and Tom Izzo in upcoming posts.
- Its unclear whether or not USC will respond to the punishment they will receive from the NCAA for the OJ Mayo and Reggie Bush violations, but the LA Times is reporting that USC's football program will face a two year bowl ban and lose as many as 20 scholarships as a result.
- John Wall got a $25 million sponsorship deal from Reebok, which is all the more impressive considering Blake Griffin gets around $400,000 from Nike and Brandon Jennings is getting about $2 million a year from Under Armour. I didn't know people still wore Reebok. Wall broke the news with this tweet. DeMarcus Cousins broke some news of his own.
- Jim Boeheim rips the APR, which caused him to loses two scholarships as a result of Eric Devendorf, Paul Harris, and Jonny Flynn leaving school early and not completing their coursework. And while I understand his arguments -- that all three were eligible when they left to pursue a professional career, and that this punishment only effects current players -- the point is that his players didn't finish their course load. If you're up 25 at halftime, you still have to come out and play the second half. Otherwise, you lose the game. How is this any different? Colorado also lost basketball scholarships.
