A college hoops WTF?

In any given season, there are numerous final scores that leave me scratching my head. Whether it is a mammoth upset or an unexpected blowout, this uncertainty is what makes college basketball, and sports in general, so intriguing to watch.

As the saying goes, anything can happen.

If sports were that easy to predict, your neighborhood bookie would be out of a job.

This season, there has been a few games that have really made me too a double take.

Take last month's Old Dominion-Charlotte game, played at Old Dominion. Charlotte was 10-1 heading into the game, which included a 22 point win on the road at Louisville. ODU was just 8-4, but proceeded to whip the 49ers by 33 points.

So the Monarchs are 55 points better than Louisville, right?

It gets even more confusing when you take into account Saturday's George Mason-Old Dominion game, which took place at Mason in the Patriot Center. Old Dominion was coming off of the Charlotte win, a win at Georgetown, and a win over Duquesne at home, while Mason was fresh off of a 27 point smack down at the hands of Radford of the Big South conference.

What happened?

George Mason won by 16 points.

Does that mean that Mason is 20 points better than Georgetown? One step further, and it makes the Patriots are a whopping 71 points better than Louisville, right?

There are too many examples of results like this to count, but this is just one that happened to grab my attention.

What does it mean?

Well, nothing really. At least nothing we don't already know.

It just goes to show you that in college hoops, no one ever really knows.
