Wednesday's Shootaround

Yesterday's Tip-Off Marathon wasn't the only basketball that was played last night.

Top 25 Blowouts:

No. 1 Duke 79, Miami OH 45: Duke looked sloppy at time, but Seth Curry provided a spark off the bench to the tune of 17 points as the Redhawks were overmatched.

No. 7 Villanova 84, Marist 47: Marist hung around valiantly for a while, but the Maalik Wayns show was too much. He finished with 17 points and enough fancy dribbling to make Hot Sauce jealous.

No. 15 Washington 98, Eastern Washington 72: Justin holiday had 18 points as the Huskies overcame a sluggish first half.

No. 24 Wisconsin 85, North Dakota 53: Jon Leuer had 22 points, 6 boards, and 7 assists to lead the way.

No. 23 Tennessee 85, Belmont 76: The Vols were on their way to a blow out, but a late 22-6 run cut the lead to 77-76. After two free throws, Belmont at a wide open look at a three to tie it ... and missed.

Major Conference Losers:

Nicholls State 62, LSU 53: Anatoly Bose went for 28 in the win.

North Texas 92, Texas Tech 83 OT: To be completely fair, North Texas is a good basketball team this season. But still, not the way Pat Knight wants to start out the year when he is on the hot seat.

New Mexico 76, Arizona State 62: The Lobos got 33 points from Dairese Gary and Kendall Williams and used a 20-0 run in the first half to knock off the Sun Devils. Trent Lockett had 22 for ASU, but no one else was able to reach double figures.

Xavier 76, IPFW 66 OT: Xavier is still struggling offensively to replace Jordan Crawford. The Musketeers, who put in a new offense in the offseason, are lucky they still have Tu Holloway, however, as the junior point guard had 24 points -- including six in OT -- to lead the Muskies to the win.

Georgia 83, Colorado 74: The Bulldogs put together an impressive win over a good Colorado team without Trey Thompkins in the lineup. Travis Leslie had 19 points and 8 boards while Gerald Robinson added 21 points and 6 assists.

Florida State 78, Gardner-Webb 53: Chris Singleton continued his hot start by going for 30 points and 12 boards on 10-11 shooting.

Charleston 83, Coastal Carolina 67: Andrew Goudelock scored 27 points and handed out 9 assists in the Cougars come-from-behind win.
