No divisions for Pac-12 hoops

While it seemed like all the big news coming out of the Pac-10's media day involved football, there was some newsworthy items about the structure of the Pac-12's basketball side.

To start, there will be no divisions for basketball, which is probably the right decision. They will continue to play an 18-game conference schedule, but unfortunately the Pac-12 will not have the double round-robin that the Pac-10 did; there are simply too many teams.

Like most had speculated, the schedule format will look like this: Each year you get a home-and-home with your natural rival (Utah and Colorado being, you know, natural rivals) while playing six of the other ten teams in the conference twice. Which six teams you play twice will rotate, which is important. Pac-10 teams playing road games in Southern California is incredibly important for recruiting. There is a ridiculous amount of talent in that area, and being able to say to recruits that you'll play two games every season in front of your family and friends is a vital recruiting tool.

Everything about conference expansion has revolved around football, which basically means up hoop heads simply have to hope that this shuffling doesn't ruin our sport. While I'll miss the double round-robin -- its so perfect -- I think we can all agree that the conference got this one as right as possible.
