Its official.
Kalin Lucas ruptured his achilles tendon.
Its a huge blow to the Spartans Final Four hopes. Michigan State played with out Lucas for a game earlier in the season when Lucas injured his ankle and simply did not look like the same basketball team. It looks like he will be out 4-6 months.

Two players are going to have to step up for the Spartans to have a shot at advancing past Northern Iowa. Korie Lucious, their back up point guard, will have to take over the reins at the point. Lucious struggled against Illinois back when Lucas was out, but he played well in the second half against Maryland, including knocking down the game-winner. They will also need a big game out of Durrell Summers. Summers has been and enigma this season, as he has coasted through the year looking almost apathetic to the Spartans success. But his 14 early second half points against Maryland was a huge difference in the game.
Most importantly, however, keep in mind that this is Tom Izzo, and these are the Spartans.
Correct me if I am wrong, but don't the Spartans always seem like the kind of team that thrives as those plucky, scrappy underachievers that everyone bet against? Did anyone pick them in the Final Four in 2005? Did you have them in in the the title game in 2009?
Izzo has a reputation as the best tournament coach in the country.
He'll have to earn it this year.
