1. Kansas: The Jayhawks passed their first real test of the season with flying colors, making Temple look silly in a 32 point blowout in Philly. The bottom-line is that the Jayhawks are the best team in the country, and now they have some evidence supporting that.
2. Texas: If I had told you that Texas A&M-CC would keep their game with the Longhorns closer than either Michigan State or UNC, would you have believed me? Chalk this one up to an off-night for the Horns; Damion James, Avery Bradley, and J'Covan Brown combined to shoot 6-34.
3. Kentucky: When Kentucky wants to be, they are as good as anyone in the country on the defensive end of the floor. They big, they are athletic, and when you piss them off, the Wildcats can get mean. The issue? Whether or not they put out the necessary effort.
4. Purdue: The Boilermakers solidified their standing among the elite with a big win over West Virginia. While Purdue seems to be a favorite for a #1 seed and possibly a Final Four, this team lacks the NBA talent of the three teams above them. No one on Purdue is a lottery pick, and outside of JaJuan Johnson, there may not be a first round pick (and Johnson is iffy). You need NBA talent to win a national title. Can Purdue break that trend?
5. Duke: It seems like par for the course: Duke surprises some people, wins a bunch of early season games, but fades down the stretch as their legs begin to go. Will this group be any different? Only time will tell, but what we know right now is that the Blue Devils, fresh off of schelackings of Clemson and Gonzaga, are one of the five best teams in the country.
6. Villanova: The win at Marquette is much more impressive than it appears right now. Anyone surprised Scottie Reynolds used a pump-fake on his game-winner? No? Well, you shouldn't be.
7. Syracuse: No one expected the Orange to go undefeated, but to lose at home to Pitt? Can't say I saw that coming. Don't expect the Orange to go 1-13 from deep too often.
8. West Virginia: The Mountaineers were embarrassed at Purdue, but the Boilermakers are quite good, especially in Mackey. WVU needs Truck Bryant to get healthy.
9. Kansas State: The Wildcats keep rolling along. Its a travesty that Pullen wasn't named to the Wooden List.
10. UNC: UNC struggled to close out Rutgers. With Ginyard again battling injuries, Dexter Strickland is seeing more minutes.
11. Michigan State: Kalin Lucas starting to lead? He had 15 in the second half against Northwestern after being asked to sit out by Tom Izzo.
12. Georgetown: Chris Wright is averaging 24 ppg over his last three.
13. Ole Miss: Win over Jacksonville State doesn't say much about the Rebels. But how many backcourts are better than Chris Warren, Terrico White, and Eniel Polynice?
14. New Mexico: New Mexico had a good beating, beating Texas Tech and Dayton at home.
15. Wisconsin: Wisconsin had a couple of impressive wins this week, opening Big Ten play with blowouts against Ohio State and Penn State.
