The Ohio State Buckeyes suffered a blow on Tuesday as 6'8" big man Dallas Lauderdale broke the fourth metacarpal bone in his right hand during a skill workout. He will be having surgery on Wednesday to repair the damage.
Lauderdale is not a big time scorer inside for Thad Matta's team, averaging just under 5 ppg last season. Instead, the 255 lb junior is counted on pretty heavily for toughness and a defensive presence around the rim. Blessed with a 7'6" wingspan, Lauderdale plays much bigger than 6'8" as he averaged 2.0 bpg (in just 20 mpg).
The injury is expected to keep Lauderdale out 4-6 weeks, which means that it is possible he will be ready to go by OSU's first game on November 9th against Alcorn State.
But if his recovery time stretches into the upper end of that range, the big fella could miss the Nov. 19th match-up with North Carolina in the Coaches vs. Cancer event at MSG.
If Lauderdale does miss some time, expect Zisis Saurikopolous, a 7'0" sophomore transfer from UAB, to fill in.
