Notre Dame's Scott Martin tears his acl

Notre Dame got some terrible news on Friday as they received the word that junior forward Scott Martin tore the acl in his left knee.

The injury occurred during the team's pre-season practice on Thursday. In a 5-on-5 full court drill 10 minutes in, Martin crumpled to the ground after coming to a jump stop.

The injury is not only a devastating blow to Martin, who sat out all of last season after transferring to South Bend from Purdue, but to the Notre Dame team. The Irish were already thin up front. While no one will ever consider Martin a bruiser in the paint, he is 6'8" with the ability to play the four defensively.

Head Coach Mike Brey was also counting on Martin for his scoring ability, calling him the most talented offensive player the Irish have had since Troy Murphy. Junior Tyrone Nash will more than likely move into Martin's starting spot. Juniors Tim Abromaitis and Carleton Scott and three freshmen - Mike Broghammer, Jack Cooley, and Tim Knight - will compete for minutes off the bench.
