UPDATE: Midnight Madness happened last night

Before I get into my thoughts on the ESPN U Midnight Madness show, there were a couple news and notes from last night.

  • Jerime Anderson, who is expected to start in UCLA's back court this season, missed UCLA's first practice of the season and sat out their Midnight Madness with a recurring groin injury, which hampered him throughout last season as well.
  • Jeff Jordan, Mike's son, has been allowed back on the Illinois basketball team. He left the team over the summer to pursue his academics, but hinted last week that he was going to try and make a return.
  • Not sure if I agree with this, but during Kansas's Late Night at the Phog, Tyshawn Taylor, the sophomore point guard who injured his thumb throwing a punch during the scuffling between the football and basketball teams last month, played while Brady Morningstar, who was suspended for the first semester after getting a DUI, did not.
  • In other Tyshawn Taylor news, we now know what Point Plankn means: Point Blank.
Now to the show.

I wasn't all that impressed with ESPN U's coverage of Midnight Madness last night. I was hoping to see a lot more videos or freshman dancing, dunk contests, and maybe a scrimmage or two. While I enjoy hearing college basketball's greatest minds talk shop about their teams, that isn't what Midnight Madness is supposed to be about.

Its supposed to be about dunk contests. About silly dances. About the players not only showing what they can do on the court, but their personalities.

I think ESPN U missed that point in their coverage.

And did anyone else get sick of hearing the shameless self-promotion of their college basketball encyclopedia?

After the jump, some videos from across the country (if you have any good MM videos, forward the onto ContactBIAH@gmail.com):
