A few months back, Marquette point guard Maurice Acker announced that he would not be returning to the Golden Eagles for his senior season, instead focusing on his academics.
Well, it seems that now Acker has decided that he will play this season. It is a key addition to the Marquette back court, which lost the three-headed monster of Jerel McNeal, Dominic James, and Wesley Matthews. His return helps bolster an inexperienced back court. The Golden Eagles do get David Cubillan back, although the senior has not played much over the past two seasons. The rest of the Marquette back court rotation is expected to be junior Dwight Buycks, sophomore Darius Johnson-Odom and Junior Cadougan, none of whom have played a minute of DI basketball.
Cadougan, a freshman, is expected to be the starter, but he was just granted eligibility by the NCAA.
Acker started the last seven games of the season after James went down with a broken foot, averaging 5.3 ppg and 2.7 apg in those contests.
