Friday Morning Dump

The biggest news on Thursday had to deal with the announcement of the Big East conference schedules. The home-and-home schedules were announced, and everyone agrees that the conference did a good job with the pairs, except for one glaring omission: Syracuse and Georgetown play just once next season. Imagine if Duke and UNC played just once. Imagine if Kansas and Missouri played just once. True, Georgetown/Syracuse is a step below Duke/UNC, but you get the idea. Now, what will follow is some reaction from the various Big East blogs on their team's conference slates: Syracuse, Georgetown, UConn, Villanova, West Virginia, Rutgers and Seton Hall, more Seton Hall Marquette, St. John's, Louisville,

OK, now that we've gotten that mess taken care of, let's hit the links.

- The Kansas football and basketball teams clashed again.... But this time, instead of throwing haymakers, they threw down some jump shots

- With the NBA officially going to a lockout, the discussion about the NBA draft age limit is going to pick up

- Starting today, BYU is officially a member of the West Coast Conference

- Washington senior guard Venoy Overton pled guilty to not pimping

- The eyeballs over at CBS got together to discuss the in's-and-out's of the July recruiting period

- Hofstra coach Mo Cassara is dominating the off-season First, he landed UConn-transfer Jamal Coombs-McDaniel, then he landed Penn State-transfer Taran Buie. Clearly Cassara is using the "You can be the next Charles Jenkins" pitch

- Earlier in the week, we noted that former-Arkansas guard Rotnei Clark was taking visits to potential landing spots. Now, another former-Arkansas guard, Jeff Petersen, has decided to transfer to Florida State

- New Penn State head coach Pat Chambers nabbed his first recruit. Four-star guard Akosa Maduegbunam committed to play his college hoops in Happy Valley

- Are we underestimating how good Canadians are at basketball? Texas tapped in to the Canadian pipeline last season, and it seems like New Mexico is following suite

- Boston College is going to win only one conference game next season?

- Former-Western Illinois guard Jelani Johnson has decided to transfer to Bellarmine (DII)

- Kansas head coach Bill Self is set to donate $1-mil for a new West Lawrence recreation center

- Syracuse's Fab Melo finally appeared in court yesterday

- Marquette athletic director Steve Cottingham has resigned amidst scrutiny of the program's issue with assault cases

- Rumble in the Garden provideds a succinct recap on the overhaul that has taken place since Steve Lavin cam aboard

- incomming-Providence freshman Kiwi Gardner has been getting his "Marshon Brooks on" during the summer league

- Who is the boldest Big-12 player ever?

If a DI head coach asks you if you want a ride in his golf cart, you always take it

If "not pimping" is now a crime, I'm afraid a lot of schools are going to have trouble putting teams on the court this year.
