Wednesday Morning Dump

- Kentucky Sports Radio has quoted one of the people that Pete Thamel used is yesterday's report as claiming his quotes were misused. Its the second time that an article written by Thamel (he wrote the Bledsoe piece back in May) about Kentucky has had people he quote claim that he used the quotes out of context. For what its worth, I'm not buying it. to me, it comes off as a new assistant at a D-I school trying to cover their ass, and Kentucky fans trying to deflect attention away from the fact that, it appears, Kanter is actually a pro.

- A great-read from Andy Glockner on the mystique of the '90-'91 UNLV Runnin' Rebels. They certainly don't make teams like that anymore. While this year's UNLV squad isn't the same as the '90-'91 squad, Lon Kruger and company have the talent and desire to make a name for themselves. He also put together a list of the ten most compelling teams since the '91 Rebels. Dare I say, Glockner was en fuego yesterday.

- UConn filed their response to the NCAA yesterday, but it won't be made public until next week. Apparently, there were several three-ring binders packed with documents that still have to have names and information redacted. Under the Freedom of Information Act, UConn has ten days to release their report, and they aren't commenting on whether or not they self-imposed sanctions. Rest assured, we will be writing on it when news breaks.

- Doug Gottlieb discusses the art of recruiting and why top-100 players aren't necessary to have a successful program (ESPN Insider).

- Gary Parrish gives a list of his five picks for a breakout season. Solid list, although I would quibble with the idea that Kim English and Jon Leuer can, you know, "breakout" more. Both led NCAA Tournament teams in scoring last season.

- Kansas Athletic Director Lew Perkins announced his retirement earlier than expected. Perkins said he would retire in September of 2011, but this past year at Kansas was filled with enough controversy, scandal and embarrassment to make him step down early.

- An extension for a restraining order against Oklahoma State player Matt Pilgrim has been dismissed.

- Jeff Goodman explains why nobody is laughing at Colorado State's program anymore. In our Mountain West preview, we said the Rams were our pick for a sleeper in what should be a very good league. Great minds, Jeff. Great minds.

- Speaking of Coach Cal, he is helping to promote the World Equestrian Games, a two-week event that will take place in Kentucky. Wow, just wow. This is how we still know it's summer.

- Is it too early to talk about possibly beating a #1-team? Not for Marquette.

- A look at non-con schedules for some Colonial Athletic Conference teams.

- Speaking of the CAA, the conference tournament will remain in Richmond until 2014.

- Five storylines to watch for in the Big East.

- Blame LeBron James for not knowing Syracuse's schedule yet

- Want to know who is the best Creighton Bluejay ever to wear the #12 Jersey? (It's a question that keeps me from sleeping some nights).

- Seattle's Cameron Dollar got an extension.

I think you mean "This is how we know it's STILL summer."
