UPDATE: We are moving this post back to the top of the blog. Earlier today, ESPN updated their top 100 for the first time since the July recruiting period. Now, our consensus rankings take those changes into account.
Recruiting rankings are fickle.
Every recruiting website is going to have a differing opinion on each player, and at times it is difficult to even find a consensus from each of the analysts and experts compiling the Top 100 lists on a given site. Maybe one person caught a player's best game, while someone else saw that same player struggle to play through a sore ankle. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and those opinions vary.
But the wrench thrown in the spokes for high school recruiting is that each player is still developing. Some kids stop growing at 15, others grow well into their college years. Some kids take a while to develop the coordination it takes to function as a seven-footer. Some kids stop working on their game once they see their name on a Top 100 list.
On Tuesday afternoon, both Scout.com and Rivals.com released their post-July Top 100's. (ESPN's hasn't changed). If you remember, about a month ago we compiled a consensus Top 100, showing off our excel skills while giving you guys a database to toy with numbers.
Well, we updated it.
Remember how Michael Gilchrist was a lock as the No. 1 prospect in the class? Well, not anymore. We got a new top dog in the Class of 2011, and it is far from a consensus.
Hit the jump to see our consensus Top 100 (well, 134 actually), and click this link for an explanation as to how we got the numbers we did.
