BREAKING: Slam is reporting John Wall to Kentucky

Yes, Slam is an unusual place (has anyone ever heard of Aggrey Sam?) for news like this to break (UPDATE: WTVQ in Lexington is also reporting that Wall has chosen Kentucky, but they are piggy-backing off of the Slam article), so we are going to wait to officially declare Wall a Wildcat until the big boys (Katz, Parrish, Goodman, Winn) weigh in (UPDATE #2: Luke Winn has confirmed it, so has Jeff Goodman. Wall is headed to Lexington).

If Wall does, in fact, head to Kentucky (which should surprise absolutely no one) With Wall headed to Kentucky, the Wildcats look like the preseason #1 team in the country, especially if Jodie Meeks makes the smart decision and comes back to Lexington.

I mean, look at this roster: John Wall, Jodie Meeks, Eric Bledsoe, Jon Hood, Darius Miller, DeAndre Liggins, Ramon Harris, DeMarcus Cousins, Daniel Orton, Patrick Patterson, Perry Stevenson. They are big. They are deep. They are athletic. They are led by the #1 recruit in the country, who happens to be a big, athletic point guard expected to be a very high pick in the draft.

Does that remind anyone of the '07-'08 Memphis team?

The bigger story is that the SEC is not only returning a ton of talent (Jarvis Varnado, Patterson, Michael Washington), they are bringing in a ton as well. If Tyler Smith returns to Tennessee and Nick Calathes heads back to Gainesville, the SEC is looking at four, possibly five six teams (Florida, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ole Miss, South Carolina) in the preseason top 25.
