We're not even three full weeks into the season, and it's already pretty clear who is sitting atop the mythical #POSTERIZED Top-25:Detroit freakshow Doug Anderson.
The term "freakshow" is being used in only the highest regard. Doug Anderson's athletic ability would be describe by many as being "freakish", and when the ball is in his hands, he can put on a spectacular show.
Don't think we're discounting Ray mcCallum's pass at all. That's a pass not many players can make.
Then again Ray McCallum Jr. is not just any person, he's arguably the Horizon League's top player. But it's because of Doug Anderson's freakish abillity that McCallum Jr. is able to throw a pass like that. No offense to the other 4,500 Division-I college basketball players, but Doug Anderson has something that you just don't.

#POSTERIZED: Flight-23 ready for take off |
There is no denying that Detroit's Doug Anderson is one of the most elite jumpers in the country. Sure, he was left off our preseason top-10 dunkers, but only because I wanted to see more.
And boy, did Anderson deliver:
Not only has Anderson positioned himself in the top-10, but he's also the clubhouse leader for dunk of the year.
I'm also certain that this won't be the last we hear from Flight-23.
But was it as good as these?

POSTERIZED: MR.. (Doug) ANDERSON!!!!!! |
Detroit's Doug Anderson can dunk, that's for sure.
True, he hasn't made #POSTERIZED before tonight, but it's not because a lack of trying. He just struggled to be in the right place at the right time.
But against Valpo, he got the ball with some space to work.
And, well, he did work.
If only he could have grabbed the P.A Announcer's mic and yelled "MIIIIIIIIIIISSSSTER ANNNNNNNNNNNNNDERRRRSON"
Regardless if he screams or not, this is still one helluva dunk.

Eli Holman to take a leave of absence from Detroit |
A major reason why Detroit was a trendy pick to win the Horizon League this season was the presence of center Eli Holman.
Holman, one of the better big men at the mid-major level, was one of five Detroit players to average double figures, posting 11.8 ppg, 9.6 rpg and 1.6 bpg last season for the Titans. But after being asked by the school to take an indefinite leave of absence, its unclear when -- or if -- he will actually suit up for the Titans.
"We have been working with Eli Holman for some time to assist him in addressing his personal matters," Detroit's Director of Athletics Keri Gaither said in a statement. "At this time, we feel it is in Eli's best interest to step away from basketball to allow him to concentrate on these matters. He has been excused from all team-related activity for an indefinite period while actively addressing these issues. We continue to support Eli during this time and we are asking everyone's cooperation in respecting his privacy."
This isn't the first time that Holman has been in trouble. The 6'10" Richmond, CA, native began his career at Indiana, but his transfer to Detroit was suspicious. After a meeting in which Armon Bassett and DeAndre Thomas were told that they were being kicked off of the team, Holman decided to transfer to Detroit, following former IU assistant Ray McCallum in a move that didn't make Tom Crean too happy.
Neither did the way that Holman made his exit -- he threw a potted plant in Crean's office and had to be escorted out by the police.

The Real March Madness: Day 1 |
Everyone loves the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament. Four straight days jam-packed with 12 hours of do-or-die college hoops is more than most people can handle.
But for junkies like us, the next 13 days are just as good, for it is when the true Madness takes place. Over the course of these two weeks, we whittle some 347 teams down to 30 conference champions (the Ivy doesn't have a tournament). Auto-bids will be won. Bubbles will be burst. Buzzers will be beaten. And most importantly, a 65 team bracket will be made.
Here is what happened on Tuesday
Game of the Day: Tennessee Tech 68, Austin Peay 65
You could call this one the "upset of the day" as well. The 6-seed Golden Eagles won on a game-winning 3-pointer by Kevin Murphy with six seconds left to edge out the 3-seed Governors. Murphy also led all scorers with 18 points, as he rallied his team back from eight down in midway thru second half. Austin Peay's Anthony Campbell hit a 3-pointer with nine seconds left to tie the game before Murphy sank the dagger. Both teams shot very well in the second half. Tennessee Tech remains the only sub-.500 team left in the OVC tournament with a 15-16 (8-10) record.
They were good too
Player of the Day: Artsiom Parakhouski, Radford
The "Belarusian Beast" scored 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Radford past Charleston Southern 64-61 in overtime in the Big South conference tournament. The big man was 9-11 from the field and committed only two fouls in his 43 minutes of action. The 6'11 beast will be the difference-maker for Radford this post-season (he has to be). No other Big South roster has a player big enough or skilled enough to stop Parakhouski, who was the Big South Player of the Year for the second year in a row. The OVC's third-seeded Winthrop Eagles will be the next team to try and stop him.
They were good too
Team of the Day: Detroit Titans
The 6-seed Titans out-hustled and out-played the 7-seed Crusaders of Valparaiso 89-82 in the first round of the Horizon League Tournament. Chase Simon led the Titans with 24 points but center Eli Holdman had an even better night, scoring 21 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Detroit held Valparaiso to 39.7% from the field and out-rebounded the crusaders 44-27. The teams had split home wins during the season, but Detroit was able to get the road win when it mattered most. They advance to play 3-seed Green Bay.
They were good too
