FBI speaks to SDSU players

Here's to hoping that the game-fixing scandal that rocked the University of San Diego this month didn't spread to their crosstown rivals.

According to a report from the San Diego Union Tribune, a number of San Diego State players were questioned by the FBI in regards to the sports bribery being investigated at USD.

The players were questioned because they had been contacted by one of the 10 people indicted in the case, the sources said, but the nature of that contact remains unclear – whether it was an approach to fix SDSU basketball games for bribes or whether it was as innocuous as a friendly chat.
Apparently, the questioning was not the result of the FBI being suspicious of the Aztecs. Rather, players from SDSU had been in contact with the some of the 10 defendants in the USD case.

"San Diego State student-athletes fully cooperated with FBI agents," a statement from SDSU said. "Since that time, San Diego State athletic department officials have been in continuous communication with the FBI and have been told that there is no plan for additional interviews with the student-athletes."

"At no time during this process were any of the San Diego State student-athletes the focus of the investigation or accused of any wrongdoing."
