There have been rumblings for a while, but today it was made official.
Alex Murphy, a five-star prospect out of Rhode Island, has reclassified to 2011, meaning that he will enroll at Duke next season instead of the 2012-2013 season. Murphy is now finishing up his fourth year of high school after repeating his freshman year when he transferred from The Prout School to St. Mark's. He's completed all of the academic requirements to become a college student.
At 6'8", Murphy is a small forward that can slash to the rim, knock down a jumper with range out to the three point line, and he can also handle and pass the ball well. According to ESPN.com's profile, "Murphy brings great size, skill and feel for the game to the small forward position. He is a match up problem because of his size and even could be a face up power forward in a small line up."
This gives Duke an even more impressive recruiting class. Its headlined by Austin Rivers, who is the best perimeter scorer in the class of 2011. PG Quinn Cook, SF Michael Gbinje, and C Marshall Plumlee round out the class.
Duke's recruiting class can get even stronger if they are able to land another blue-chip small forward in DeAndre Daniels, who was on campus for an official visit this past weekend. But there is speculation that Murphy's early entry into the college ranks will make Daniels look harder at the other schools recruiting him, which includes Kansas.
