Tuesday's Pregame Beat: JaJuan Johnson vs. Jon Leuer highlights the night

7:00 pm: No. 10 Purdue @ No. 18 Wisconsin: Purdue has lost four games this season -- at Minnesota, at West Virginia, at Ohio State, and to Richmond in Chicago. Wisconsin, on the other hand, is as good as any team in the country on their home floor. That could very well be the difference tonight as the Badgers and the Boilermakers are very similar teams.

The best matchup will be up front between JaJuan Johnson and Jon Leuer, who embody their teams in a way. Johnson is a bit better than Leuer on the defensive end of the floor and gets to the offensive glass at a higher rate, but Leuer is a more well-rounder, efficient offensive player.

The same goes for Purdue and Wisconsin. Purdue, when they are at their best, are a tough defensive team that relies on Johnson and E'Twaun Moore to carry them offensively. The Badgers are not as good defensively as their reputation would make you believe, but they hit the defensive glass as well as anyone in the country, execute their offense to perfection, and never turn the ball over.

9:00 pm: No. 24 Vanderbilt @ No. 23 Florida: Someone in the SEC East is going to have to eventually start to take control of that conference, right? If it is going to be Florida, this game starts a stretch that will give us a good feel of how good the Gators are. They are currently a half game ahead of Tennessee and Kentucky in the loss column and a game and a half up on South Carolina and Vanderbilt. They get those four teams next, starting with Vandy.

The Commodores have been just as much of a conundrum as the Gators. John Jenkins and Jeffery Taylor are two of the best players in the conference and Fetsus Ezeli is one of the more underrated big men in the country. But Vandy just can't seem to put it all together for more than one game. They smacked St. Mary's 10 days ago, then proceeded to get worked by Arkansas at home on Saturday.

9:00 pm: UNC @ BC: I wrote about the Tar Heels and their potential improvement yesterday. With a road trip to BC, playing in a gym that rarely fills when the weather is perfect, the Heels must get this one. If they do, they will be tied with Duke for the ACC lead.

7:00 pm: No. 11 Kentucky @ Ole Miss: The Wildcats have struggled on the road in the SEC this season, losing to both Georgia and Alabama.

9:00 pm: No. 2 Kansas @ Texas Tech: The Red Raiders have been hot of late, winning four in a row. Mike Singletary and John Roberson are both talented, but does Pat Knight's club have enough support to pull the upset?

9:00 pm: Penn State @ No. 24 Illinois: Here we are on the first day of February, and the Nittany Lions are actually ahead of the Illini in the Big Ten standings.

Other Notable Games:

  • 7:00 pm: Wake Forest @ Florida State
  • 7:05 pm: Wichita State @ Indiana State
  • 7:30 pm: Maine @ BU
  • 8:00 pm: New Mexico @ Air Force
