Update on Kyrie Irving's toe

According to Jeff Goodman, who spoke to Kyrie Irving's father on Tuesday afternoon, the Duke freshman will not be having surgery on his injured toe.

In fact, the cast on Kyrie's right foot will be coming off on Feb. 4th. Once he gets the cast off, he will begin the rehab process. That said, it still sounds like a long shot that the star point guard will be returning to the court this season.

"That's the most important thing," Irving's father, Drederick, told FOXSports.com on Tuesday afternoon, "that he gets completely healthy."

"We're still in a holding pattern. Right now it's about Kyrie's recovery. We'd all like him to come back, but right now we don't know."

Duke is 8-1 without Irving, but they haven't looked as dominant as they did with Irving in the lineup. They've been settling for too many contested threes, something that Irving likely would have been able to help with using his ability to penetrate. The fact that he is capable of driving, drawing defenders, and dishing to the open man makes him a valuable asset to the Blue Devils.

He was averaging 17.4 ppg and 5.1 apg when he got hurt against Butler on Dec. 4th.
