Wesley Witherspoon out for five weeks

A young Memphis team just got even younger, as news broke today that junior forward Wesley Witherspoon willl miss the next five weeks after surgery to repair a meniscal tear in his right knee.

He suffered the injury November 17th against Northwestern State, but had been trying to play through the pain. He was averaging 13.0 ppg and 4.6 rpg as the Tigers are currently 7-1 on the season after losing to Kansas Tuesday in yhe Jimmy V Classic. Witherspoon will miss games against both Tennessee and Georgetown.

This may end up being a big problem for the Tigers. They are a young team that plays young -- they make poor decisions with the ball and play a too selfish and lackadaisical. Witherspoon was supposed to be their veteran leader, but he was not doing a good job of it.

And now he is out.

With C-USA looking a bit tougher than expected and Memphis appearing vulnerable, losses to Georgetown and Tennessee can really hurt the Tiger's at large chances.

Might Memphis have to win C-USA this year to go dancing?
