No. 11 Missouri 85, Vanderbilt 82 OT: See here.
No. 23 Kentucky 72, No. 16 Notre Dame 58: See here. In their first real test of the season, Notre Dame looked, well, not very good. The Irish simply could not score against an invigorated Kentucky defense. Aside from a stretch of about 10 minutes where Ben Hansbrough caught fire and dropped in five threes, the Irish were flummoxed by the Wildcats. At the other end, Terrence Jones was in full-on beast mode, finishing with 27 points and 17 boards, while Brandon Knight added 20.
No. 17 Illinois 74, Oakland 63: Illinois came out of the gates ice cold, hitting just three of their first 13 shots. But once everyone realized that they were using a women's ball (seriously, this actually happened), the Illini woke up. More specifically, Demetri McCamey woke up, as he bulldogged his way to 30 points, including 11 straight in a key second half run. More importantly, however, is that Illinois' big men held Keith Benson to just 11 points on 2-9 shooting.
No. 1 Duke 83, Bradley 48: Despite Kyrie Irving sitting out with a toe injury, the Blue Devils obliterated the Braves, who were also missing their star. Andre Dawkins hit eight threes and scored 28 points, handing Coach K his 877th win, moving him past Adolph Rupp and into third all-time.
No. 15 San Diego State 77, Cal 57: Its official, the Aztecs are the best team out west. After heading into the half up 28-26, SDSU exploded in the second half, running the Bears out of the gym on the strength of 20 points from Kawhi Leonard and 14 points (all in the second half) from DJ Gay.
No. 12 Villanova 65, Penn 53: Corey Stokes had 34 points in the win, knocking down 11-15 shots from the floor and hitting five threes. But none of Nova's other back court players were able to get it going. Corey Fisher had just four points on 1-4 shooting, and he played 37 minutes despite coming off of the bench for disciplinary reasons.
No. 19 UNLV 75, Boise State 72: The Rebels jumped out to a 22-2 lead on the Broncos, but Boise State rallied. They got within 10 before halftime, and cut the lead to 73-71 with 23 seconds left. Chace Stanback led four players in double figures with 16 points.
No. 21 BYU 86, Vermont 58: In his homecoming game, Jimmer Fredette went for 26 points, but more importantly was able to get a standing ovation both during introductions and after Dave Rose pulled him when the game was out of reach. Great story, as the entire town of Glens Falls seemingly rallied behind Jimmer. Hopefully, more coaches will start doing things like this for their players.
Washington State 81, Gonzaga 59: This loss was just embarrassing by the Zags. They didn't score for the first eight minutes of the game, turned the ball over 25 times, and allowed Wazzu to shoot 50% from the floor for the game and 11-21 from three. More on this game later today.
Oklahoma State 71, Tulsa 54: Two things are worth noting from this game. For starters, Tulsa lost Donte Medder for the season with a torn acl. The other? Marshall Moses had 31 points on 12-12 shooting. He hit his only three pointer, but missed his last free throw attempt of the game. Earlier this year, Asher Fusco wrote about perfect games in basketball.
TCU 81, Texas Tech 77: Apparently, TCU wants to prove to the Big East that they belong. For the second time this season, the Horned Frogs beat a high-major opponent. They are now 7-3 on the season.
Hofstra 89, Binghamton 85 OT: The only reason this is here is because Charles Jenkins went off for 40 points, including 31 in the second half alone.
Indiana State 73, DePaul 51: Apparently, I'm blogging from 1979.
