Friday Morning Dump

- A must-read list from Sports Illustrated on the 32 greatest broadcast calls in sports history (You can probably guess which college-hoops calls are on there. Plus, No. 1 is a no-brainer). Seriously folks, if you love lists even half-as-much as I do, you need to check this out.

- An excellent point by Jeff Eisenberg that I had forgotten about -- the Maui may be stacked for next season, but that doesn't mean their future is safe.

- Luke Winn continues his week of lists by listing the top-16 defenders in the country. Fran Fraschilla put one together earlier this week. I gotta say, I'm giving the W to Winn.

- Despite losing last season's consensus Player of the Year, Evan Turner (Not to mention Mark Titus, the greatest bench-warmer in the history of collegiate basketball), the Ohio State Buckeyes are ready to compete at the highest level. That's what happens when you mix a solid core of returners with a group of supremely talented freshmen. The fine folks of Columbus are sure going to enjoy watching Jared Sullinger play, I can guarantee you that.

- The investigation into the potential that Oregon used ineligible players over the course of the last two seasons has been taken over by the NCAA. That usually isn't a good sign.

- While we are on the topic of violations, UConn's hearing with the Committee on Infractions is today. When the rest of the country is celebrating Midnight Madness, Jim Calhoun and company will be trying to convince the NCAA that they have been punished enough.

- Imagine you are a coach at any of the Big-12 schools. Who do you have take the last shot? Big12hoops.com compiled a pretty descent list of who they think would take the last shot for each team in the Big-12.

- What reason does Kyle Singler have to come back to Duke for his senior year? He won a National Championship and took home Tournament MVP honors, and I'm pretty sure he was named as a first-team All-American. He can always come back and get his degree later. Plus, Senior Week is not as fun as people make it out to be. Again I ask, what reason does he have, after all he has accomplished, to come back to Duke for his senior season? A back-to-back championship of course.

- RTC had a chance to interview Lefty Dreisell.

- Yesterday would have been John Wooden's 100th birthday.

- After a grueling off-season which saw him rehab his torn achilles tendon, Michigan State's Kalin Lucas cannot wait for Midnight Madness to arrive. Lucas isn't the only one banged up right now for Michigan State, however. Getting healthy, and getting over Tom Izzo's NBA flirtations, will be the key for the Spartans this season.

- A good-read on how and why a potential NBA lockout could affect this season's draft class.

- Bruce Pearl can finally start to focus on basketball, instead of, you know, basketball-related stuff. In related news, Kansas coach Bill Self believes the NCAA's version of "anytime minutes" needs to go. Bruce Pearl wishes they were already gone.

- Adam Zagoria on how Tom Herrion is adjusting to life as head coach at Marshall. Herrion served as associate head coach under Jamie Dixon at Pittsburgh for the past three seasons before accepting the head coaching gig at Marshall this off-season.

- A fantastic Q&A session with new Illinois-Chicago head coach Tracey Dildy. I've never seen the man coach, but I'm already a fan.

- A couple days ago I dropped a link about how John Calipari isn't that big a fan of the Maui Invitational. Well, yesterday a reporter from the Maui News responded to coach Cal's comments.

- Andy Katz interviews Memphis coach Josh Pastner as he gets ready for his second season at Memphis

- USC athletic director Pat Haden is not very pleased with the plans for the new Pac-10 divisions

- A recap of media day from Pittsburgh and Wake Forest.

- Who is the biggest college hoops star in the Nation's Capitol? Conventional wisdom suggests that it's Georgetown's Austin Freeman, right? Wrong.

- A season preview video for the Kentucky Wildcats (I seriously doubt this was made by the athletic department)

- On Thursday I dropped a link stating that a member from Kentucky's 1996 National Championship team was trying to hock his ring. Decorated hoops writer/amateur wiseguy Jeff Eisenberg sets the odds on who the player is
