Tobi Oyedeji was killed early Sunday morning after he lost control of his car on his way home from prom.
Bellaire High School has come up with an interesting way to honor his memory.
You see, for much of the season, Bellaire and Yates High School were the No. 1 teams in their respective divisions in Texas high school basketball, but the two teams never squared off.
Tonight, they will.
Since the game is taking place outside of the actual high school basketball season, neither school's head coach can participate, and only the seniors that have graduated will be allowed to play. Every player in the game will be wearing Oyedeji's No. 35, and Bellaire will begin the game with just four players on the court.
The game is going to be played in Houston's 5,000 seat Delmar Fieldhouse, and the money raised by selling $5 tickets will go to the Tobi Oyedeji Bellaire Class of 2010 Memorial Fund.
Along those same lines, Texas A&M head coach Mark Turgeon has been in Houston all week with the Oyedeji family, helping to cover hospital bills and funeral costs. The school is close to getting the Tobi Oyedeji Endowed Scholarship Fund off the ground.
Notes, cards and well wishes are welcomed and should be sent to the Aggie basketball offices at P.O. Box 30017, College Station, TX 77842.
