So did you see the New Mexico-UNLV game?

Last night, despite what ESPN will tell you, the best game of the night was New Mexico playing UNLV. Two top 25 teams squaring off for sole possession of first place, where the top spot means so much come the conference tournament.

Usually, MWC games are broadcast on The Mountain, a channel that very few people get. But we caught a break. CBS College Sports was broadcasting the game, which tipped at 11:00 pm.

It was a great plan.

Until Kalee Whipple happened.

You see, CBS College Sports was also broadcasting a 9:00 pm women's game between Utah and TCU. And it just so happened that game turned into an instant classic. Kalee Whipple played 59 of the 60 minutes for Utah, scoring 45 points, grabbing 11 boards, and also tallying 4 steals and 3 assists as the Utes pushed MWC leader to the brink.

Perhaps the most memorable shot came at the end of the third OT. Utah was down four, but with five seconds left they inexplicably had a three-point shooter fouled. She hit the first, but missed the second and the third. The rebound bounced around before it ended up in Whipple's hands, and she hit a 28 foot fadeaway to force the fourth OT.

That's all good, except it caused everyone to miss the first half of the New Mexico-UNLV game. By the time we were able to tune in, New Mexico had a 12 point lead.

It did lead to some outstanding twittering, however:

KraigW: "there are more people complaining about this on twitter than watching it in person"

aglock: "The 80 people left in the arena are seeing an Instant Classic. Best unintentional comedy: The Utah cheerleader holding the "GET LOUD" sign."

stfhoops: "Yes, we are VERY AWARE: RT @ESPNAndyKatz - Not sure this has been followed but Utah women's player Whipple hit shot to push Utah to 4 OT"

irishscott3: "This is going to be the women's Cuse-UConn, isn't it? Thank you, Title IX."

armadillosports: "Good lord-- I just took a shower, did some laundry, made myself a late snack and ... I see Ms Whipple again"
