And you thought Carolina's season couldn't get any worse.
According to Buster Sports, Ed Davis has an injured wrist, believed to be broken, and will be out the rest of the season.
So now, not only are the Heels 2-7 in the ACC, they are all but a guarantee to miss the NCAA Tournament. There is no chance that this team can make a run missing Tyler Zeller, Travis Wear, and Ed Davis. Not the way they have been playing of late.
Buster does point out that this could end up being a good thing. Ed Davis was projected as a top five pick before the season started, but poor play of late has hurt his draft stock. Combine that with this injury, and its not out of the realm of possibility that Davis could return to the Heels on '10-'11.
If Davis does return, this team is an immediate favorite in '10-'11. With the talent they have returning, plus the recruiting class -- headlined by Harrison Barnes -- UNC will be loaded, and more experienced.
Another silver lining is that John Henson will now be forced to play some minutes. The uber-lanky 6'10" frosh has shown some promise, especially using his athleticism around the rim, but doesn't really seem to have a feel for the game. That only comes with playing time (and the Sean May meal plan over the summer).
