This morning's craziest headline: "Nets give old college try: Duke's Mike Krzyzewski, Kentucky's John Calipari linked to coaching job."
All this coming a day after Rick Pitino was rumored to be interested in the job.
He's not (although it looks like he may be headed out of Louisville).
So apparently we're just throwing any name out there now. From NorthJersey.com:"He's the Nets' first choice,” said an NBA source with knowledge of the organization's thinking. "It comes down to if he wants to leave Duke and his comfortable setting and take on a new challenge."
Umm, ok. Let me be clear.
The Nets could also offer Krzyzewski the title of general manager. Both the coach and general manager posts, currently held by Kiki Vandeweghe, are expected to be available after the season.
This. Is. Not. Happening.
I understand the reasoning. Great college coach. Coached Team USA. Relationships with big name free agents. Cool.
But this is the Nets we are talking about, remember? Do you really think Coach K is going to leave his post as God of Durham to coach Devin Harris and Brook Lopez in North Jersey when $40 million wasn't enough to get him to coach Kobe in LA?
Please.
And as far as Coach Cal goes, we all know his relationship with LeBron. He hired LeBron's childhood friend to work for the Kentucky basketball program, and LBJ recently attended the Kentucky-Vanderbilt game. If Cal is going back to the league, he's going to coach LeBron.
Are the Nets going to get LeBron?
I don't know. But until they do, UK fans shouldn't worry.
