Want a perfect example of why national TV exposure is great for recruiting?
Tony Wroten Jr.
If you don't know who he is, don't worry, you will in a few years. Wroten is a 6'5" shooting guard that is a consensus top 10 recruit out of Garfield HS in Seattle in the Class of 2011. Just by taking a quick peek at his recruiting page on ESPN, you'll see that his favorites schools heading into today were Oregon, Washington, Villanova, Syracuse, and Tennessee.
But something happened today.
Namely, UConn beat No. 1 Texas at home on the only CBS game that was nationally broadcast.
Which means that Wroten was able to watch the game. Had UConn tipped at 2pm instead of 4pm, he would have been stuck with Cal and Oregon State.
But they didn't.
And Wroten was able to watch the Huskies solidly upset the Longhorns 88-74 in front of a raucous home crowd.
As a result, could he be headed to UConn? According to his twitter account, yes.OHHH BOY. a new team has made it to my top 5. 1. syracuse 2. villanova 3. UCONN 4.Tenneesee 5. washington. PS. oregon has dropped in my list.
Neither Rivals or Scout has any mention of UConn recruiting Wroten, although a quick google search will turn up results indicating that Wroten has some interest in the Huskies. But nowhere has it been written that UConn was in his top five until this afternoon.
After he saw UConn win on CBS.
The young man is currently dealing with a torn acl, so we wish him a speedy recovery. If he can get back to 100%, he can do this:

Great catch on his tweets.
The influence of TV games can't be underestimated. Kids can only make it to so many games. Watching games on the tube can sway a player's mind quickly.
For some reason the recruitment of former Syracuse great Stevie Thompson comes to mind when thinking of West Coast stars and East Coast times.
When at Crenshaw high in LA he said that he could get home from school, flip on the tube, and watch Big East games. This led to his interest and eventual signing with Syracuse.
Wroten would fit the Huskies's style perfectly. He's a physical, high energy guard who's a sensational passer. Kind like a meld between Dyson and Walker. It'll be interesting to follow his recruitment.
