- Awesome ending to the first half with a beautiful fast break and behind the back pass by David Weaver. If I'm Dino Gaudio, I don't know if that is the play I want to see made, but as a fan I loved it. Half time, and it is 44-40 Clemson.
- Wake needs to start getting some stops. They can't keep anyone out of the lane right now. It was 23-19 at the under eight timeout, and Clemson has scored 23 points in the six minutes since then. They are shooting 57% from the floor.
- This game is a lot of fun to watch as both teams are going back and forth. Tanner Smith just made a fantastic lefty no-look pass to Trevor Booker for a big dunk, but Wake responded with a couple of baskets before KC Rivers hit another three. Rivers is 5-5 from the floor for 12 points, but is currently on the bench getting his teeth checked.
- Clemson can really score in bunches. They are currently on an 8-0 run, and just turned over LD Williams.
- Right now, Wake is up 23-19 on Clemson. The Tigers have been getting killed on their front line, as Wake is outscoring them 19-7 up front. Dino Gaudio wanted an emphasis on assists in this one, and Wake is delivering - they have assisted on six of their nine field goals.
- Northwestern has made a "run", outscoring OSU 11-2 in the first six minutes of the half, cutting the Bucks lead to one. George Mason has an early 16-13 lead on cinderella Towson. Winner gets VCU in the CAA finals. Davidson and Charleston just tipped, as did Siena and Fairfield. Both Siena and Davidson are good enough to win a game or two in the dance, but they are going to need to win their respective tourneys to get the chance.
- And we are on to Wake Forest-Clemson. This games has almost no influence what so ever. If Wake wins, they are the 2 seed in the ACC tourney, if they lose, the 3 seed. Clemson, on the other hand, is locked into the 5 seed, meaning that they will not get a first round bye.
- It is over now. UNC wins the ACC, beating Duke 79-71. Apparently, Hansbrough is giving a speech to the crowd after the game. Please lord, let CBS air something else.
- Where is Greg Paulus? Does he even exist anymore? Nolan Smith isn't even playing, and Paulus still has played, what, 10 minutes? Tops?
- Singler grabbed a rebound on a Lawson miss, but stepped out of bounds. On the next possession, Lawson scored and drew a foul. The lead is now 75-69 with just a minute left. This one might be over. And Lawson's line is pretty impressive. 10 points, 8 boards, and 9 assists.
- So after Scheyer hit a three to cut the lead back to 70-68, Danny Green responded with a three on a great play by Ty Lawson to get into the lane and draw defenders. 73-68 with 1:50 left, Kyle Singler is taking two free throws.
- Some scores to get you caught up on - VCU knocked off ODU 61-53 and will play in the CAA championship tomorrow. Ohio State has taken a 25-15 lead on Northwestern at halftime (I hate the Big Ten) in a battle of bubble teams. In Northwestern wins, they just about have a bid locked up.
- Carolina comes right back and gets a Deom Thompson three-point play and a fast break lay-up by Wayne Ellington to push the lead back to seven.
- Huge turnaround there. Four point swing as Danny Green missed a dunk and Gerald Henderson finished his. Duke is hanging around 65-63. Fine minutes left.
- UNC has pushed the lead to 63-57. Duke is hanging around, but it just looks like UNC is ready to pop. If the Heels go on one of their
- Huge three by Singler. His first basket in about 20 minutes of game time. He had 15 of Duke's first 22, and 18 now.
- Duke hasn't committed any turnovers here in the second half, but the difference right now is that Duke is not making shots, which is allowing UNC to get out and run.. the lead is seven now.
- Apologies, had to run an errand (people gotta eat, you know). UNC is making a push here in the second half. They have opened up a three point lead, but they still cannot keep the Devils in front of them. He has had two drives where he just missed an absurd dunk. Jon Scheyer has 16 for the Devils, without having missed a shot all day (6-6). Duke is still doing a great job controlling the tempo and keeping Lawson/Ellington in check (as I typed that, Ellington hit his first three of the game to make it 53-48), but the issue for the Devils is battling in the paint. They are lucky that Hansbrough is in foul trouble.
- Duke has taken a 35-32 lead, shooting 60% from the field and hitting 5-10 from deep. The key right now is that Duke is controlling the tempo. They are getting good possessions offensively, and hitting their jumpshots. As a result, it is slowing down UNC's break. If Duke starts to miss the jumpers, there are going to be long rebounds. Long rebounds lead to run outs for the Heels.
And Gerald Henderson is good for at least one poster dunk per game. He just had a nice two-handed yunk on Larry Drew.
- A couple of score updates: FSU ended up beating Va Tech 63-53, and Toney Douglas went for 22 points. VCU is locked in a tight one in the CAA semi's against Old Dominion, up 32-30 with 15:48 left in the half.
- Duke's threes, more specifically Kyle Singler's, are keeping Duke in this game. The UNC offense is clicking as they have hit five straight shots and are getting out and running the floor effectively. Lawson already has four assists. UNC needs to keep Duke's penetration to a minimum. The last two three's have come off of Gerald Henderson getting past his man, drawing a help defender, and finding Scheyer/Singler open. Singler has 13 of Duke's 20.
- UNI scored the last six points of the game, and Osiris Eldridge missed a three at the buzzer, giving UNI a MVC title and a trip to the dance.
- Duke has turned the ball over on three straight possessions, as Duke has fallen behind 6-2. Lawson's toe looks just fine, as he is really getting up and down the floor and moving very well. After back-to-back three's by Singler and Hansbrough, UNC heads into the first TV timeout up 9-5.
- WHAT!!! CBS just cut to commercial before switching to Duke-UNC. There is a minute and a half left in OT of the championship game in the MVC!!! I know that Duke-UNC draws in the viewers, but how are you going to cut away from a great game like that?
- FSU has taken a 62-50 lead over Va Tech as UNI' PG hits another three. Oguchi hits a runner. 57-54 ISU.
- It looks like Eldridge is cramping up. He just came out of the game, and they are stretching out his left calf.
- Exciting start to the OT. Eldridge hits a jumper in the paint, UNI responds with a three from their point, and Champ Oguchi hits one right back. 53-51 ISU.
- These two teams just went to OT in Illinois State on Feb. 24th, a game which UNI won.
- Osiris Eldridge airballed a DEEP three with about five seconds left on the clock. I'm not sure if that is the shot you are looking for there. I know Eldridge has been on fire, but how many 30 footers are you going to hit fading away? Go by the defender, try to draw a foul and get to the line.
- This one is going down to the buzzer. ISU ball, 29 seconds left, tie game, tourney trip on the line. I love this stuff.
- Oguchi hit both free throws, and Sampay just fouled Lucas O'Rear to the line. Two shots to tie the game with 36.4 on the clock. He hit them both.
- They just announced that Ty Lawson will be starting for UNC against Duke today with the toe injury.
- The MVC title game is still tied at 46 as both teams have missed opportunities in the last two minutes. Champ Oguchi just got fouled going up for a rebound. Two shots with 53 seconds left.
- With 6:30 left in the game, FSU has a 48-42 lead over Va Tech. This is Tech's last chance. They need this win to get to 8-8 in the league. If they lose, they will fall to 17-13 and 7-9, losing six of their last seven and eight of their last eleven. The committee will take into account the close losses that Va Tech has, but at some point they need to win some games. Even if they get this one, the Hokies will still probably have to get a win or two in the ACC tourney to have a chance. If they lose, more than likely the Hokies are going to need to win it.
Toney Douglas has 15 to lead FSU.
- I'm watching two games right now - Illinois State-Northern Iowa in the MVC championship and FSU-Va Tech. In the MVC title game, Osiris Eldridge is taking over. He has 19 second half points after not scoring in the first half, and has hit four ridiculous three's in the last five minutes. 46-46, with four minutes left.
- So I'm back from the Army-American game. It was a great game, as American came back from down 12 early in the second half and five in the last two minutes to win and advance to the Patriot League finals. There are just two other games to get caught up on:
