BIAH NCAA Tournament Live-Blog Day 2

Yesterday's slate of games was a bit anti-climatic, as only two games went down to a final possession - KC Rivers fired up an airball as Clemson lost to Michigan and Eric Maynor left a 15 footer well short in VCU's loss to UCLA.

Today's schedule is much more enticing, as there are at least two intriguing games during each of the four sessions:

  • 12:15: South - #14 Stephen F. Austin vs. #3 Syracuse
  • 12:25: East - #9 Tennessee vs. #8 Oklahoma State
  • 12:30: West - #11 Utah State vs. #6 Marquette
  • 12:30: Midwest - #14 North Dakota State vs. #3 Kansas
  • 2:45: South - #11 Temple vs. #6 Arizona State
  • 2:55: East - #16 East Tennessee State vs. #1 Pitt
  • 3:00 PM: West - #14 Cornell vs. #3 Missouri
  • 3:00 PM: Midwest - #11 Dayton vs. #6 West Virginia
  • 7:10 PM: Midwest - #16 Morehead State vs. #1 Louisville
  • 7:10 PM: Midwest - #12 Arizona vs. #5 Utah
  • 7:20 PM: Midwest - #10 USC vs. #7 Boston College
  • 7:25 PM: East - #13 Portland State vs. #4 Xavier
  • 9:40 PM: Midwest - #9 Siena vs. #8 Ohio State
  • 9:40 PM: Midwest - #13 Cleveland State vs. #4 Wake Forest
  • 9:50 PM: Midwest - #15 Robert Morris vs. #2 Michigan State
  • 9:55 PM: East - #12 Wisconsin vs. #5 Florida State

Follow along after the jump.

- Arizona has taken control, as has USC, so we are going to call it a wrap tonight for our live-blog. We will see you back here tomorrow for the second round games.

- Gibson has picked up his fourth for USC.

- Arizona is settling for too many jumpers. They need to get the ball going to the basket. Not only is that was has worked for them all game, but if they can get Nevill out of the game it would be a huge loss for the Utes. Of note, Carlon Brown just picked up his fourth.

- Utah is really moving the ball well against this Arizona zone. They are getting the ball to both sides of the court and it is leading to some really good shots. Kepke missed a wide open three that would have cut the lead to two.

- Josh Southern is on the bench for BC right now, and USC is taking advantage and really starting to assert their dominance on the glass. They have opened up a 56-47 lead.

- Utah is making a run, and has cut the lead down to 63-57, while a Rakim Sanders three ends an 8-0 run and keeps the game at 52-47. Both of these games are really starting to pick up. Gus Johnson might lose his top if this back and forth action continues in the USC-BC game.

- Luke Nevill is back in the game with four fouls.

- Tyrese Rice has not played well today, getting shut down by the USC defense. But Taj Gibson has been fantastic. He has 15 points right now, on 7-7 shooting.

- Dante Jackson has 13 points right now, and has been playing some fantastic defense on Jeremiah Dominguez as Xavier as opened up a 12 point lead.

- It is very dangerous for Arizona to allow Utah to hang around as closely as they are right now. The Utes are playing very poorly without their best player on the floor. Arizona needs to get some separation while they have a chance - a seven point lead should not feel safe right now.

- The best email I've gotten today: "Utah has a player named Utah?". No, it says Utah on the back of EVERY jersey.

- Foul trouble!! Luke Nevill just picked up his fourth and Taj Gibson has picked up his third. Utah is in trouble, down eight now, while USC is still trailing BC by 2.

- Louisville has come out strong in the second half and built their second double digit lead of the game.

- The second halves have kicked off in the Zona-Utah game and the Louis-MSU game. Once again, Utah has started the half off ice cold and committing turnovers. And now Nevill just picked up his third foul, which is the same number as his field goal attempts.

This is great right now, as all four games are single digits.

- This BC-USC game has been quite interesting. Each team has looked like they were about to take control a couple of times. The half ends with BC up 34-30.

- Dante Jackson just hit his third three of the game, and Xavier has gone on a 13-2 run to open up a 37-27 lead with just four minutes left in the half.

- Huge three for Utah heading into halftime. They were severely outplayed by Arizona and had their best player in foul trouble, and they head into halftime just five points back. The Utes have to feel like they are in great shape heading into the second half.

- Louisville cannot shake Morehead State, as they are up just 34-31 with two minutes left. The Cards have a tendency to do this, however. Eventually, their pressure wears teams down.

- Portland State took a lead against Xavier before a Derrick Brown hook gave Xavier the lead back. Over in Minnesota, USC is really looking sharp against BC. They are getting a bunch of fast break baskets, something that they weren't doing earlier in the season when they were battling injuries. USC does not look like the same team from earlier this season.

- Nevill is being very aggressive defensively as he has two fouls. As if on cue, Boylen pulls Nevill. Arizona looks pretty tough right now. I have to believe that they are playing with a bit of a chip on their shoulder after all the criticism about whether or not they deserve to be in the tournament.

What I am most surprised about is how hard Zona is pressing. They aren't always the best defensive team, and they have forced 12 turnovers.

- Another #1 seed is struggling, as Louisville is now trailing Morehead State. What is going on?

- Xavier has taken a 19-10 lead over PSU. In other news, Jeremiah Dominquez is tiny. He also just picked up his second foul.

- Luke Nevill has come back onto the court with 13 minutes left and two fouls. Arizona has to get the ball to Hill. A third foul on Nevill this early would be devastating.

Or take the ball off the dribble right at him like Budinger just did.

- USC looks really good here in the early going, especially on the offensive end. They are getting good shots on just about every possession, and have a 10-7 lead early.

- Arizona is forcing turnovers with their defense right now, as they have opened up a 12-4 lead on Utah. This could be a problem for the Utes with Luke Nevill on the bench.

- BC and USC is about to tip. The key to this game is Daniel Hackett. He has already proven that he is one of the best defenders in the country, and they will need him to help slow down Tyrese Rice from BC.

- Nevill just picked up his second 3:38 into the game.

- The match-up I'm interested in watching to day is Jordan Hill and Luke Nevill. Two of the better big men in the country, I have a feeling that Hill will get the better of Nevill. The big Aussie is 7'2", but I'm not sure he will be able to handle someone has active and as athletic as Jordan Hill is.

- We are back, and Louisville has tipped with Morehead State, as wel as Arizona and Utah.

- Da'Sean Butler turns the ball over with 26 seconds left, and WVU is done. This will be the first loss for the Big East in the tournament.

- Pitt has taken a 72-62 lead over ETSU with 24 seconds left, and this one is over. Great effort by the Bucs despite the loss.

- Two offensive rebounds by Dayton almost seals this one up, while two free throws by Gibbs gives Pitt an eight point lead.

- Two huge shots. Little gets an and-1 to give Dayton a five point lead plus a free throw and fouling out Alex Ruoff, while Ashton Gibbs knocks down a three to give Pitt an eight point lead with 1:05 left.

- West Virginia is getting baskets, but they cannot get a stop against Dayton.

- The Bucs have gotten 19 offensive rebounds against Pitt. If they end up losing, they are going to think back to the foul line - they are 11-21.

- The Mountaineers are forcing too many threes. The worst part is the shots they are taking are not good looks. They are tough threes under pressure off of the dribble or one pass. Take the ball to the hole!

- WVU just missed another chance to get the lead back. Dayton is hanging on right now by taking the ball to the basket and getting to the line.

- Blair might be that guy, after getting an and-1. Although, I don't know how proud he should be scoring over Pigrim, the ETSU point guard.

- After two more O-boards, ETSU cuts it back to two at 59-57. And another Pitt turnover. The Panthers just do not want to win this game. Someone needs to step up and be a leader. The amazing thing about this game? ETSU has led just once.

- A Young three puts it back at six, and WVU has possession with a chance to take the lead with 7:00 left.

- And they force a turnover and a lay-up. 53-50.

- Pitt finally opened up an eight point lead, but Tiggs answers with another three for ETSU. ETSU is not going away, but Pitt looks like they are starting to assert their will on this game. ETSU comes out in a 1-3-1 zone. I like the change, just make sure you box out.

- Another Pitt turnover. Is that 17 now?

- Stat time - ETSU is beating Pitt in second chance points 16-2. They have 16 offensive rebounds.

- Chris Wright is taking this game over. He has 23 and 8 boards, and just got another and-1 dunk (sorta). You would think that WVU would have an answer for him as they have so many guys that can match up with his size and athleticism.

- As I wrote that, ETSU forced yet another Pitt turnover with their press. Pitt is playing great first shot defense, if they can just start rebounding they should be able to win this thing, turnovers or not.

- A Truck Bryant three cuts it to one. Truck has 18 points. He is going to be a helluva player one day. I see him being another Levance Fields.

- WVU has cut it to 48-44 with a 7-2 run against Dayton. I looks like both of these games are going to come down to the wire.

- How often do you see it? A team trying to score an upset takes a bad shot on one end, which leads to a great offensive possession at the other. Smith forces up a dumb runner, and at the other end Blair gets a great seal and finishes, opening up a 44-40 lead for the Panthers. Blair has 20.

- I don't get it. Pitt is supposed to be so good on the boards, but they are getting owned on the offensive glass against ETSU. They just had three attempts at a lay-up before finally getting a tip-in to tie it up.

- Cornell put up a good fight, but they are down 14 with 12 minutes left against Mizzou.

- Dayton has now opened up a nine point lead on WVU. Chris Wright has had some vicious dunks in the last two minutes.

- Courtney Pigram just tied up the game with 15:00 left at 35. They just showed another replay of the Prigram block. It was ridiculous.

- ETSU just had the play of the day, as Hamlin ran down Fields and blocked a fast break lay-up. Pitt just turned it over again against the ETSU press, their 14th of the game. I've been watching two minutes of this game, and I already get the feeling that Pitt did not come out ready to play. Maybe it was the missed lay-up by Blair or the blocked lay-up by Fields, but Pitt looks like they are coasting.

- Mizzou has now opened up a nine point lead against Cornell, and ASU has built their lead back up to seven points as Harden hit a three, his first field goal of the game.

- WVU is in trouble. They are down four and are still being out-toughed by Dayton - and now Ruoff has picked up his fourth foul trying to make a steal near half court. WVU does not look like the team that beat Pitt not even a week ago.

- ETSU has tied up the game on the first possession against Pitt. I kind of hope that Pitt loses this game. I've always wanted to see a 16 beat a 1.

- ASU called a timeout after 5 straight points from Christmas. He has 27 points, and Ian Eagle finally made the obvious joke - "Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas".

- "Why don't you try reading the rules, shank-o-potamus" I love that E-Trade baby.

- Derek Glasser is back in for ASU, and after a three point play, Pendergraph now has 20 points. ASU is up 52-44, and listen to this stat: James Harden has 2 points and no field goals.

- Glasser, who is ASU's leading scorer, has gone out of the game with what looks like a muscle pull in his back. He was backing a Temple defender up court, and it looked like something pulled or spasmed. He is being stretched out on the sideline. In his absence, ASU has turned the ball over three times and allowed the Owls to get it down to five.

- The ASU-Temple second half has begun, and the Sun Devils have a 40-34 lead. Christmas already has six points in the second half, giving him 19 on the game.

- We have halftime in three games - Mizzou 29, Cornell 25; Pitt 26, ETSU 25; Dayton 33, WVU 28. Should be an exciting last 20 minutes all over the country.

- Stat of the day so far - Cornell has just 2 turnovers. Mizzou forces 19 per game. That is a huge reason why the Tigers, who averages 81 ppg, have just 24 points with 2 minutes left.

- The match-up between Chris Wright and Devin Ebanks is failing to disappoint. Wright has 11 and 5 while Ebanks has 8 and 6.

- Whoever came up with the idea from the E-Trade commercials with the baby is a genius. That man deserves whatever money he is getting paid.

- Cornell has taken the lead back against Mizzou. I wish MMOD let you watch two games at once. Next year, CBS, next year.

- Truck Bryant is so good at getting to the rim. He is not all that quick and can't really shoot off the dribble, but he is so strong that point guards are not able to stay in front of him. Once he gets his shoulders by you, he is getting to the rim.

- ETSU is tied with Pitt with 6:25 left in the first half. Blair has 7 points and 5 boards, and by looking at the box score, it seems like Pitt should be dominating this game. Anyone been watching it know whats going on?

- Ruoff finally got some space and banged a three, cutting Dayton's advantage to 18-15. But Paul Williams has an answer, and the lead is back to six. WVU looks a bit flustered by Dayton's pressure defense right now. I never thought I would say this, but Dayton is tougher than West Virginia right now. They are getting loose balls, taking charges, and defending.

In the Cornell game, the Tigers are starting to assert their will defensively. After a quick start Cornell has gone cold offensively, and are now down 13-8. The Tigers are just too athletic for Cornell.

- Arizona State heads into halftime with a 35-26 lead. Glasser has 17.

- Cornell is handling Missouri's press pretty well here early on. It is too be expected, as their point guard, Louis Dale, was last season's Ivy POY and one of the more underappreciated points in the country. One excellent point that was made earlier is that Cornell actually has more tournament and postseason experience than Missouri does (they lost to Stanford last year in the first round).

- Temple has come back and cut the lead to 29-24 with eight straight points. Christmas has 11, but the key for Temple is going to be slowing down everyone who isn't James Harden. You have no chance - none, zip, zilch, zero - if Glasser and Pendergraph are going to play the way they did in the first eight minutes of this game.

- Dayton has a 7-3 early lead. They are comparing West Virginia to Xavier right now, and I do like that comparison. I think WVU is much better defensively and going to the offensive glass. But both of those teams have a ton of guys that are 6'6"-6'8", long, and athletic, have a couple of shooters and scorers on the perimeter, and have a freshman point guard starting.

- Pitt ETSU has tipped, and ETSU has an early 2-1. I think following that one on the CBS scoreboard will suffice.

- Dayton and WVU has tipped, and Little opens the scoring with a bucket going to the rim. This game is going to be won on the offensive glass. WVU just got a three off of an offensive board.

- The Sun Devils are playing very well offensively right now, hitting their open looks and getting penetration. The one thing that they need to do is be sure to locate Christmas on the defensive end. They are getting to him, but he is the kind of shooter where you cannot give him any daylight when his shoulders are squared. He can hit them from about 28 with a very quick release.

The lead is 29-16, and Glasser and Pendergraph both have 11.

- Arizona State has opened up a 14-11 lead early in the first half. Both Christmas and Pendergraph have 5 points.

- Of note - the Big XII (5-0) and the Big East (4-0) are both still undefeated in the dance, followed by the ACC (3-1), Pac-10 (2-1), Big Ten (2-2), and SEC (1-2).

- Arizona State and Temple are about to tip, the rest of the games are schedule for after 3:00.

- Jerel McNeal missed one from the line, but Wilkinson bricked a three. Hayward stepped to the line and made one with 5.1 seconds left to seal it. USU hit a three at the buzzer for the final 58-57 margin.

- NDSU got 37 points and 3 assists from Ben Woodside, but Sherron Collins got the best of him, finishing with 32 points and 8 assists as the Jayhawks hung on against a scrappy Bison team 84-74.

- Tyler Smith missed a three at the buzzer that would have won the game, and OK State will advance to play Pitt.

Utah State banked in a three down five with 23 seconds left. I don't know who is the color guy for the USU-Marquette game, but he just tried to claim that Williams was trying to bank in that three. Are you kidding me? This guy is a moron, why he announcing a basketball game?

- Smith hit the free throw, but Eaton made a beautiful crossover to go away from a screen being set, drove to the lane and finished, drawing a foul with 6.7 seconds left. Eaton is so strong going to the rim.

Hayward made both free throws in Boise, and after a stop, McNeal made tough runner in the lane.

- What a tough move by Tyler Smith to tie the game and draw the foul. He will be going to the line with 24 seconds left and the game tied.

Quayle, the USU point guard and hot hand in the second half, has just picked up his fifth foul. Hayward will beheading to the line.

- Marquette has really clamped down defensively, scoring five straight points to cut the lead to 49-48.

In Dayton, it has become a sloppy game as back-to-back turnovers by each team has led to an Eaton jumper with 46 seconds left. 74-72 OK State

Lazar Hayward has given Marquette the lead with 2:20 left 50-49.

- Two games coming down the stretch - Utah State is up 49-45 with just under four minutes left and OK State is winning 72-69 with 2:33 left.

- Quayle knocks down a three and the Aggies have taken their first lead of the game 46-43. Utah State is really starting to click offensively after scoring just 18 first half points. Another three by the Aggies, and they have a six point lead with just over 4 minutes left.

- Gary Wilkinson is so tough in the post for USU. He has led Utah State back to a tie game with 5:45 left.

- OK State comes out of a timeout with a soft 1-2-2 press, and it forces two fumbles by the Vols, who have taken a 60-57 lead.

- Lucas Moorman just fouled out for the Bison as the Jayhawks have taken a 69-59 lead with 5:30 left. This one looks to be over, so CBS is taking up to Tennessee-OK State, where the Vols are up 67-65 with 5:57 remaining.

Oh, and James did NOT shave his head. Too bad.

- Kansas' defense has really started to step up, as they are making it tough for Woodside to touch the ball and, finally, keeping him out of the paint. The last Bison possession ended with a shot clock violation.

- Cuse wins 59-44, Flynn had 16 and 7 dimes.

- So I just switched to the Marquette-Utah State game for the first time as the Aggies have gotten the lead down to 36-35, and it looks like everyone on Marquette has shaved their head. I have yet to see Dom James, but I am curious as to whether he did because, you know, he has a pretty boy hair do that looks like he spends a lot of time on.

- NDSU needs to start getting some stops if they want to make this comeback. They are scoring just about everytime they get the ball into Woodside's hands, but they can't stop Kansas right now. Collins just picked up his third as well.

Over in Dayton, a tech on Moses after a big dunk led to a five point possession that erased a six point Cowboy lead. OK State is also in some big foul trouble. Harris and Eaton have 3, and Anderson just picked up his fourth.

- Kansas has gone away from getting the ball into Aldrich in the post. He is 6/8 from the floor for 12 points and 9 boards, but more importantly both of the Bison big mean have four fouls right now.

- NDSU is down 56-53 with 11:16 left to play.

- Utah State is coming back against Marquette, having cut the lead to one, while Tennessee is up 54-53 on OK State right now.

- If you aren't watching NDSU-Kansas, put it on now. I don't know if you will see a better one-on-one battle than the one between Ben Woodside and Sherron Collins right now. This is the kind of stuff that the NCAA Tournament is based on - the little guy, led by a star, trying to overcome the powerhouse.

Can Woodside be this year's Curry? He is playing like it right now.

- The rest of the Bison are starting to wake up - Tveidt (pronounced tweet) and Winkelmann have scored the last eight.

But Collins has an answer for every basket. Each of the Bison's last four hoops have been answered by a bucket or an assist from Collins.

- NDSU has gotten the game down to 47-44 with an 8-0 run, but Kansas answers with a gorgeous screen-and-roll that ended with an oop from Collins to Aldrich.

- All signs are point to UConn winning a national title. In their previous two titles, they came out of the West (the Huskies are in the west this year) and Jim Calhoun has missed part or all of some games (he missed the Huskies first round game). Its a done deal, apparently.

- Kansas has stretched their lead to 11, and in the early moments of the second half, the Jayhawk defense looks very tough. And as I wrote that, Woodside blew right by a defender and set up an open three from the wing.

- OK State has scored the first two baskets of the second half to open up an eight point lead. Tennessee, as they have all season, settle for some terrible shots. This is a Vols team that really seems like they need to be able to survive by playing with more energy and aggressiveness than their opponents, but they seem almost apathetic today. I don't get it.

- They just showed Verne Lundequist, and the guy looks about 90. Is he really the best guy to be doing the NCAA tournament games? Especially when you consider that these afternoon games are really only watch by college kids that are skipping class, young professionals that are skipping work, or the unemployed. I get the feeling that Verne is a bit out of touch with all of those people.

- The second half of the Cuse-SFA has kicked off, and the Orange are still rolling, taking a 46-24 lead. If I'm Boeheim, I start really shortening the rotations for guys like Flynn and Devo and Harris. He is going to want to keep those guys as fresh as possible.

- Marquette is at the half now too, 26-18. The Eagles have done a good job on the Aggies big man Gary Wilkinson, but McNeal is once again having a poor shooting day. He is 1-6 from the field, but has gotten to the line six times for 8 points. Lazar Hayward is leading the Eagles with 12 points.

- And NDSU and Kansas are at the half, and Kansas us up 43-34. They finished the half on a 16-7 run. Woodside has 16 for the Bison, but they are going to need to get more out of the rest of their guards to keep hitting shots if they want to come back. After hitting their first four three's, the team went cold, hitting just 3-9. Collins had 17 and Aldrich 8 and 4 boards.

- Two games at the half already - Cuse is up 38-22, Rick Jackson and Flynn both have 10 already. OK State is up 38-34, led by 10 from James Anderson.

- Tennessee makes some terrible decisions offensively. Yea, they have some outstanding athletes, but does anyone on that team understand how to play basketball? Watching them try to play is like watching sixth graders play. Sixth graders that can dunk...

- Kansas has opened up a 38-29 lead with an 11-2 run. I know that Collins can score just about at will, but the key to this game will be Cole Aldrich. He has about four inches and a ton of strength and length on anybody that is wearing green. Get the ball to the big fella.

- Byron Eaton just picked up his third foul on a charge against JP Prince in Dayton, but Tennessee cannot finish inside as they have missed a number of bunnies.

- If Woodside keeps playing like this against Collins, who is an excellent defender, he might play his way into the NBA Draft. He isn't much of a defender, but he has 14 points in 16 minutes.

- Kansas has opened up their biggest lead of the game, after Tyshawn Taylor finished a fast break with an and-1 lay-up. 34-27 with the free throw to come.

Tennessee also opened up a seven point lead, but the Cowboys responded with a 5-0 spurt. Watching this game, I am convinced that both of these teams will give Pitt some problems in the second round. The Panthers always struggle against teams that can spread them and force DeJuan Blair or Tyrell Biggs to defend on the perimeter. That is exactly what both of these teams will do. We are tied in Dayton at 32 with 3:50 left.

- Syracuse has opened up a 38-13 lead, while Marquette had a 19-9 lead.

- Woodside just tied up the game at 25 with a three. He has 10 points, but Collins has 15 already. Woodside is a crafty player. He reminds me a bit of Dan Dickau, the former Gonzaga point guard - not terribly fast or big, but very crafty, very quick, and exceptional at changing pace, which allows him to get by most defenders. That, and he can shoot the lights out.

And if Gus Johnson is the most energetic announcer doing the tournament, Len Elmore has to be the exact opposite. Monotone, all business. I guess I like that, but is that really who you want to pair with Johnson? Are they trying to even it out a bit? Imagine if they teamed Johnson with a guy like Raftery. The entire game would be screaming gibberish, but boy would it be fun to watch.

Just a thought, someone tell CBS.

- NDSU doesn't have anyone that can defend Collins or Aldrich. Those two should be able to score any time they want. But the Bison, especially Woodside, are shooting very well right now.

- James Anderson of OK State just went coast-to-coast for a lay-up. He can really play. He is 6'6" with an excellent jump shot, but he can also get to the basket with the bounce. He has scored 30+ four times this season, and I think he has a shot to be a pretty good pro.

As I wrote that, the action has really started to pick up. Back-to-back threes were surrounded by back-to-back tip-ins as Tenn takes a 24-23 lead into the under 8 timeout.

- Kansas is starting to get a little bit of distance as they have opened up a 21-17 lead. The Bison need to keep Kansas off the glass if they want to spring this upset.

Marquette is now up 13-7 at the under 12 timeout, while Tennessee has taken the lead back 17-16 on the strength of a Negedu bucket in the paint.

- CBS finally came to their sense. I now get the Kansas NDSU game on TV, and I'm watching Tenn-OK State on the comp. Technology is so cool.

- Marquette has taken an early 10-5 lead over the Aggies of Utah State out in Boise, where it is 10 am. The gym looks like there is about 25 people there. Why is the NCAA Tournament held in Boise again?

- Syracuse has taken a 18-4 lead with 10 minutes left. Can they put on a different game? Thanks.

As I wrote that, Aldrich caught a huge oop in their halfcourt offense, but the Bison answer with another three. They are the fifth best shooting team in the country from beyond the arc, so if they can get hot, the Jayhawks may be in trouble.

- The last two possessions will probably be the story of this game - NDSU knocks down a three, but Kansas grabs an offensive rebound and gets an and-1 put back. 6-5 early for NDSU, and they have hit two three's already.

- As I wrote that, Eaton picked up his second foul as OSU takes 10-9 lead into the under 16 timeout. I'm heading over to the Kansas game to watch me some Ben Woodside.

- I FORGOT WE HAD GUS JOHNSON TODAY. Please god, give him an exciting game.

- The Cuse have taken a 10-2 lead on SFA, and as such we will turn out attention to Tennessee-OK State, where the Cowboys are up 8-6 early.

- One thing I have noticed about the Syracuse zone is that they play their wings way out on the perimeter, almost to the point that it is a 4-1 zone. If SFA can get the ball to the high post and look for the hi-lo pass, they should be able to get a bunch of points from the paint. It is how they got their first points. 8-2 heading into the under 16 timeout.

- In other injury news, Jim Calhoun has been released from the hospital. Good news for the Huskies.

- The Orange are pounding the ball inside here at the start. Onuaku has a bucket, as does Jackson, and the Orange have a quick 4-0 lead. Of note, Ongenaet is apparently suffering from flu-like symptoms.

- And the tip. The Lumberjacks have the shortest guy in the NCAA tournament running the point for them. He is 5'3" and makes the 5'11" Jonny Flynn look like Hasheem Thabeet.

- We start off today with Syracuse and Stephen F. Austin from Miami. BIAH will be coming to you live couch side today, as we will be utilizing what we have heard is a great new version of MMOD on CBS.

Ya the new MMOD is much much better. There is about a minute of delay and scores are slow to update, but the usabilty is flawless.

What no CPBG today? I can imagine two days of that would take a toll on your wallet. However, it is an experience that any true fan of March Madness should appreciate and try for themselves

Its a shame that NDSU has nobody on the interior like you mentioned, because Woodside can straight up ball.

How can you forget that we had Gus Johnson today, you made a whole post about his announcing schedule.

The Trizzle was 16 for 16 yesterday, and needs Tennessee to step it up in the second half to stay perfect.

I'd also like to mention that B.I.A.H is a cited source in my senior thesis on digital convergence in citizen journalism that I just completed.

I will be showing screenshots of the live blogging from the AU vs. Lafayette game during my final presentation in front of the communications department.

I just put all my screenshots into my powerpoint. I gotta find some way to fill up 45-60 minutes of talking time.

I think we just got our first Gus Johnson scream of the afternoon. You were right, Len Elmore is not the guy to be put with Gus, hes got no emotion.

Come on how can someone who writes about this everyday not be leading the NCAA Picks Pool he is in?

My mom got 14 out of 16 yesterday and she couldn't tell Ty Lawson from Tyler Hansborough. Pick up your game.

What's going on? Pitt is playing sloppy. DeJuan Blair just picked up a T for hanging on the rim. That one was much more emphatic than the one called on Marshall Moses in the early game in Dayton.

Also, I don't know what online box score you're looking at, but most of the ones I've seen don't show turnovers. That's where Pitt's problem is. They're turning the ball over (some of it caused by the press, but some silly turnovers, too) and letting ETSU get far too many second chances.

ETSU caught an unlucky break. Looked like they hit a shot to come within one right before the half, but after review the officials waved it off. It literally could have gone either way. Anyway ETSU has to feel good to shoot 24 percent in the first half and be down just 3.

@Tom - Yea, I couldn't see turnovers on the box score, but that is good to know. I don't see anyway that keeps up in the second half. Levance Fields is far too good of a point guard, and I find it hard to believe that Pitt will be outrebounded by a small team for an entire game.

Rob: So far, this looks like the Memphis-Northridge game yesterday. Pitt isn't taking ETSU all that seriously, and ETSU is giving the effort, even if they're not getting shots to fall (a lot of that, clearly, has to do with Pitt's defense.) First four minutes will be huge. If Pitt lets ETSU hang around they might start to think they can win.

And as I'm writing, ETSU's Mike Smith ties it to start the half.

That last sequence about sums up how this game is going. A 90 percent freethrow shooter for ETSU misses two in a row at the line, but ETSU outhustles Pitt for the rebound. ETSU wants this a lot more than Pitt does.

I have to ask, with the kind of game Blair is having, why on earth is Pitt settling for jump shots with 30 left on the shot clock?

Hope you all just saw that play. Shot clock was winding down and Fields sent a long lob into Blair on the low block. Nearly all the ETSU players swarmed on him, and he pumped, then put it up and in and drew the foul.
An absolute beastly play.

Rafftery said he looked like a carnation. Yeah, thats right, a carnation flower. WOW

I watched Morehead St. play on Wednesday night, and I remember thinking, "if any #16 seed were to spring an upset this year, its going to be Morehead St."

I know ETSU played close with Pitt for 35 minutes, but I really like Morhead State's big man, Faryd (I think). He was conference POY and would atleast give MSU a chance on the inside.

I dunno, call me crazy.
