UCLA 64, Miami OH 59: Darren Collison and Josh Shipp both scored sixteen as UCLA needed four free throws in the last 20 seconds to hold off a scrappy Miami OH team. A night after UCLA's five freshman carried the team, they only accounted for 10 points and 5 rebounds total against the Redhawks. That seems like it will be a fairly standard theme for the Bruins this year - when the freshman show up, the Bruins a top 5 team; when they don't, UCLA could get knocked off by just about anyone. UCLA will advance to the Final Four of the CvC next week where they will face Michigan. I'm looking forward to seeing these UCLA freshman play, as well as seeing Manny Harris go up against a real defense. Duke-Southern Illinois is the other semifinal.
The Gazelle Group had to have been sweating this one out a little bit. They are the group that runs quite a few of the college basketball preseason tournaments, and are the ones that decided that in both the CBE Classic and the Legends Classic, the four regional hosts would all automatically advance to the Final Four. Who do you think they wanted to see in Madison Square Garden? Miami OH or UCLA?
