Players affiliated with the Kansas Jayhawks just can't seem to steer clear of the law. Darrell Arthur and Mario Chalmers, both members of the 2008 National Champions, were thrown out of the NBA Rookie Transition program in Rye Brook, NY after being caught in their hotel room with weed and women on the first (Tuesday) night. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, both players are expected to be fined $20,000 and will have to repeat the program again next year. The Grizzlies, who signed Arthur to his rookie contract in July, and the Heat, who recently signed Chalmers, a second-round pick, to a two-year deal, may also be fined by the league.
The NBA Rookie Transition program is a four-day event which all newcomers to the league are required to attend. According to the AP: it focuses on issues such as handling their finances, life skills, the differences in NBA and NCAA rules, legal matters, how to handle the media, and the importance of character and image.
I guess they got to that part on day 2...
