Technical fouls cost Nebraska a victory |
Nebraska had a chance to hand Creighton their first loss of the season.
The in-state rivals battled back and forth for 30 minutes, with Creighton getting up by as many as eight, and Nebraska battling back to lead by three.
But with nine minutes left, Nebraska's Toney McCray was called for a technical foul after Christopher Neimann fouled Creighton's Grant Gibbs. The foul was questionable, but McCray had some choice words for the official, which were not received well.
But Nebraska head coach Doc Sadler followed that up by getting in the referee's face and went as far as to sit on the scorer's table.
At the time of the foul, Nebraska trailed by just two points.
When play resumed, Doug McDermott hit four free throws and Grant Gibbs sank two more, giving Creighton an eight point lead. The Cornhuskers were never able to bounce back from the technical fouls, and ended up losing by ten.
A win against Creighton on the road would have been huge for the Cornhuskers. But some poor decision making cost Nebraska the game and the in-state bragging rights.
