Oral Roberts was down by 18 points in the second half to UMKC. They cut the lead to 15 with six minutes left and to 11 with four minutes on the clock. A late surge got them to within two points with a second left on the clock. Rod Pearson fired a full-court pass to Damen Bell-Holter who laid the ball in to force overtime:
Indiana State improved to 6-1 in league play thanks to this game-winning tip-in by Carl Richard. The shot gave the Sycamores a win over Creighton, legitimizing Indiana State's start. The other five teams the Sycamores had played had a record of 7-29 in league play.
