You want to know why?
Just look at today's results. Eight ranked teams lost today. Seven of those losses were to unranked teams. Six of those losses were on the road:
- Colorado 89, No. 8 Missouri 76: Alec Burks had 36 points and eight boards and Cory Higgins added 18 points and 10 boards as the Buffs were able to break the Tiger's press all game.
- Georgia 77, No. 11 Kentucky 70: Trey Thompkins had 25 points and seven boards and Gerald Robinson and Travis Leslie combined for 30 points as the Bulldogs landed their first marquee win of the season.
- Oklahoma State 76, No. 17 Kansas State 62: Freshman Jean-Paul Olukemi had 22 points and 11 boards and Keiton Page and Marshall Moses had 16 points apiece as the Cowboys used a 27-7 run in the second half to beat the Wildcats.
- Houston 76, No. 18 UCF 71: Has Central Florida finally peaked? The Golden Knights couldn't overcome a 15 point halftime deficit as a not-very-good Cougars team beat UCF.
- Penn State 66, No. 19 Michigan State 62: The loss in and of itself is bad enough. Now consider that Talor Battle was just 3-14 from the field and had just 13 points. Yeah, that is a bad loss for the Spartans.
- South Carolina 83, No. 24 Vanderbilt 75 OT: Vanderbilt was up 50-36 in the second half when Bruce Ellington woke up. He hit four threes down the stretch and Sam Muldrow had 16 points, 14 boards, and 10 blocks in the win.
So yeah, winning on the road isn't an easy thing to do.
