After Miami OH's loss to Kentucky, Redhawks head coach Charlie Coles was asked by Dick Gabriel, a Kentucky sports radio host, how the game got away from him. His response:
"I can't believe you asked that question; I really can't believe it," Coles said. "Let me see here. Kentucky Wildcats. No. 4 in the country. I'm hearing four first-round draft choices. And you're asking me how that got away from me ? Why don't you ask John why it was so close? They're the Big Blue. You ought to know that. I'm not mad at you. But where have you been? And where are you from, sir?"Kodi Augustus, a reserve for Mississippi State, had a couple of gems after the Bulldogs lost to Rider. He may not be playing MSU takes on SE Louisiana on Thursday:
Gabriel then told Coles he's from Lexington.
"You're from Lexington?" Coles said. "Oh, my Lord. How did it get away from me?"
UPDATE: We have video
"This is Rider. [We're] preseason ranked No. 18 [in the AP] in the country. We're not supposed to lose our first game, home opener. Wow. It's crazy."The Sporting News got an interview with Dana Altman, the head coach of Creighton. This was in response to a question about struggling with injuries:
"I talked to my dad. He said we got outcoached. I don't know. But I looked at it, I only played 15 minutes the whole game. Yeah, I'm [upset], but like I said, I can't do nothing about it. I played all those minutes the exhibition games and then you come and play me 15 minutes? Wow!"
You want guys to be able to contribute, but as a coach we always talk about not having any excuses. We tell our players, 'You came here to play, so if somebody goes down, that's your job. Step up and play.' Some of the new guys, offensively, did that. Players make enough excuses. We don't need to give them any more.
